The Bible study started on Zoom. They have been taking on various segments of the old Testament. They have gotten to one of the books that starts with pages and pages of who begat whom. RantWoman agrees with RantMom: Unless one is really, really, really into geneology and impossible names, this is definitely not the most interesting part of the Bible, but Mom wanted to stick with the whole group experience, until...

until, that is, mid-course the host decided to switch from Zoom to Teams. RantWoman imagines this is probably because the host did not want to pay for Zoom; RantWoman has no idea whether the group tried the exit after 45 minutes and then come back trick that RantWoman has seen people cope with.

Talk about begats.

First the switch begat confusion. RantMom tapped on a link in her email and was puzzled about why noting happened.

Someone suggested she could open her Zoom app on her phone and type in the meeting ID and passcode.

If it's a Teams meeting, RantWoman is not surprised that did not work. RantWoman encouraged RantMom to ask the Bible study host about whether the platform had indeed switched from Zoom to Teams. Yes. Okay. RantWoman has a policy of not attempting tech support after dark on nightly phone calls.

The next time RantWoman saw RantMom in person, RantWoman decided to tackle the platform issue.

RantMom did not want to try on her tablet. RantMom got the tablet several years ago on some kind of a Verizon promo. RantWoman is pretty sure that when the Bible study was in person, RantMom was able, just like her peers, to whip out the tablet and look up the study passages there. RantWoman, on the other hand, has always found the tablet vexatious because many basic accessibility features such as auto-rotate are disabled. RantMom complained that, although she was able to do Zoom, she could never get a swipe working to switch from active speaker to gallery view. RantMom is frustrated. RantWoman has not confessed a slight temptation just to throw the tablet at the wall, but RantWoman is definitely not discouraging RantMom from thoughts of new devices.

RantWoman has the Teams app on her Android phone but somehow that did not occur to RantWoman to try Teams while visiting RantMom. RantWoman did later try to send RantMom a Teams meeting from her phone, but the app wanted some kind of sign-in that RantWoman did not want to deal with. RantWoman still means to send a Teams link from her home computer, but the technology journey begat enough other things to look at that RantWoman will get to this.

RantWoman suggested cranking up RantMom's decade old VERY slow windows 10 desktop.

Just turning that on and running updates took more time than the RantWomen had at that point so RantWoman has gone home to think about it.

Oh wait. RantMom does facebook church sometimes on her desktop, but as far as RantWoman knows the desktop has no camera and possibly no microphone either. That probably works fine for Facebook church, but Bible study should be more interactive. Put a pin in the device comments.

SO RamtMom needs some new devices.

Recently, RantWoman packed up her laptop and a hand-me-down IPad to offer RantMom an in-person hands-on experience. RantWoman will spare readers lots of details, but a couple short notes.

RantMom really enjoyed watching RantWoman play on her old iPad even though RantWoman did not turn Voiceover off AND all of RantWoman's Kindle books, the main thing RantWoman currently does with the iPad have migrated back to the cloud since RantWoman has not been reading much lately. RantMom especially liked seeing things in landscape mode.

Little Sister thought RantMom might not like a laptop because reasons. RantMom it turned out really liked the size of the keyboard and the fact that it is backlit. RantWoman's touchpad sometimes misbehaves but we had a productive discussion about external mouse and keyboard and wired or bluetooth.

This begat next steps: RantMom wants to talk to more people and find a way to take more classes. This seems wiser to RantWoman than immediately hurrying into some store full of shrink-wrap and sealed boxes with little opportunity to try features before buying.

Rant Mom needs some new devices. She does NOT need more connectibity unless one can connvince her that something will be a lot cheaper.

Here we digress to connectivity

Dear Verizon

At some point RantMom will be making a buying decision.

DO NOT try to sell RantMom ANOTHER line. RantMom BADLY needs to replace the tablet she got a long time ago on some kind of promotion. The tablet has actually served her well and faithfully. It responds to her stylus taps. RantWoman is pretty sure she has been able to do email, maybe Zoom, maybe online Bible reading.

RantWoman herself had an unhappy experience trying out Verizon home internet and has no opinion about whether RantMom's television and device preferences and impending move will add up to Verizon Home Internet being her best choices, ANOTHER reason to ask around and get more information before setting foot in a Verizon store.

See Home connectivity and ...

So stay tuned....
RantWomanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17611656459134372290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823348575503357740.post-1218103357628766582024-03-22T03:14:00.000-07:002024-03-22T03:14:00.127-07:00Extraordinary Relief?
RantWoman is not a lawyer.

RantWoman is not a real estate finance expert.

RantWoman is not a spycraft expert.

RantWoman is also severely allergic to Trump Inevitability Syndrome in the media.

However, RantWoman is willing not only to wade into such realms on social media, but also to grab the story of a serial killer for some metaphors.

Let's get to it.

#DonTheCon, Defendant and EX president T, lifelong tax cheat and business fraudster is in deep doo-doo. He currently owes the state of New York almost half a billion dollars in fines, penalties, and interest. He wants to appeal and the appellate court for good reason requires him on pretty short notice to post bond equivalent to the total amount owed in order even to appeal the judgment.

This purported billionaire and one of his sons are now on TV pandhandling for $5 and $10 very small dollar donations from hardworking people who pay their taxes, don't stiff their contractors or the jurisdictions where they throw parties.... Big money friends are sitting on their hands and RantWoman is pretty sure the US really, really REALLY does not want ANY presidential candidate reaching out to shady international sources of funding that this civil and criminal defendant has previously traveled with.

So what to do?

RantWoman wants to urge NY Attorney General Tish James to keep the pressure on, not to give an ince about accountability.

Peculiar digression:

Coincidentally, Peter Navarro, that Green Bay Sweep guy who plotted a coup and helped lay the groundwork for #January6 extended "tourism" excursion and single biggest one-day violent crime spree in the US since 9/11. That Peter Navarro just began serving 4 months in federal prison for contempt of Congress.

RantWoman's mind wandered to...the Green River Killer. Do not worry about how RantWoman got there. Just work with it.

Gary Leon Ridgeway, the Green River Killer, after well over a decade of killings in South King County WA, was arrested, jailed and facing the death penalty. Ultimately, in exchange for then King County prosecutor Dave Reichert taking the death penalty off the table, Ridgeway confessed to 49 murders, remembered the locations of bodies enough to give families peace, and accepted a sentence of life without parole. RantWoman remembers great relief, both that the serial killer had been caught, and, considering plenty of gruesome details in news reports of the time, that the public was spared a trial.

Uhh, #TFG has said a lot of disgusting things to and about women, but he is not known to have murdered anyone.

Urk. ex-wife #1 did mysteriously fall down some stairs.

Besides, considering the EX president's habit of waving classified documents around at Mar a Lago like hunting trophies, as well as the Presidential son-in-law's entanglements with the murderous branchof the Saudi royal family, RantWoman is going to go out on a limb and guess there are some "intelligence assets" who met untimely ends as a result of the EX President's behavior. So close enough.

Anyway, #DonTheCon could TRY one more time for a payment plan, a schedule to put money / titles to property in escrow while the appeal is in process. If he wins his appeal, he gets his money back. If not the state is made whole.

Here's what RantWoman wishes Tish James could bring about, ALL of the following conditions.:

--#DonTheCon has a liquidity problem. Interest rates are still high and RantWoman imagines that, even without the firesale angle, it's not necessarily a great time to be trying to sell real estate. So let the judge overseeing his financial affairs keep supervising all his finances and administering sales judiciously with ALL proceeds going toward judgements, not toward the Presidential campaign. Could another layer of monitoring be put in place specifically to forestall campaign finance violations?

Demand a down payment and some other VERY strict conditions:

--#DonTheCon has 3 months to negotiate plea agreements and pleads guilty to at least one felony in every jurisdiction where he is indicted. If Mar a Lago can't happen, hold the line harder about everyone else.

--#DonTheCon drops out of the Presidential race immediately! If he wants to endorse #NikkiHaley and release his delegates to her because she hung in longest and won more votes than any other also ran, that would suit RantWoman fine. If he just wants to release his delegates to vote their conscience based on politicking between now and the convention, RantWoman would be okay with that as a second choice.

--#DonTheCon agrees to at least a year of psychological examinations and debriefing about everything to do with his ballroom full of Presidential records. Honestly, RantWoman hopes that there is someone in the Trump family orbit who loves defendant Trump to impress upon him how badly he embarrasses himself and how useful some mental health support could be. Sleeping more and kicking whatever drug habits are behind his behaviors would also be an awesome idea.

--Consent to house arrest FOR LIFE at one of his properties with court permission anytime he needs to go anywhere, VERY limited guest list and access to social media a privilege that he has to earn and that he can lose for any infraction of court rules.

Is this election interference?

HELL YES.

For one thing, the WHOLE COUNTRY needs an electoral campaign that is not all about corrupt or incompetent federal judges, interpersonal divorce-related soap opera, and candidate tantrums at every turn both live and on social media.

RantWoman would LIKE to hope that there is enough sanity and respect for the Constitution in a major party for people to come together to save the country from this financial and moral disaster of a human being. RantWoman, admittedly, is still trying to work out a respectful strategy for connecting with at least the saner end of Defendant Trump's base, but that can be left for another blog post.

#DonTheCon lost the popular vote twice. He is busy simultaneously hiding under evey corner of a Constitutional umbrella he can find and publicly tearing up the Constitution, not even promising to abide by election results.

So what would be gained from looking to the Green River Killer case for an example?

A whole lot of the internet is chomping at the bit to see the former President on trial and in prison, but unless something even more outrageous that #J6 happens, RantWoman does not see that happening. Someone so clearly struggling mentally should not even try to mix the stress of trials with the canpaign trail. Every other job applicant in the world gets asked the question "when are you available to start work?" #DonTheCon is not going to be available and the sooner the #GOP deals with that the more opportunity there is for real alternative possibilities.

Everyone MUST VOTE and must fight off voter suppression and all barriers to voting. RantWomanalso does not want to hang the fate of democracy solely on what does or does not happen in the courts between now and November 5.

RantWoman would love to see this career grifter have to survive on his Presidential pension alone. As a WOMAN who thankfully has not been raped, I care VERY much whether other women are helping elect a long-term sexual predator. Remembe "grab 'em by ...?" Remember beauty contestants complaining about #DonTheCon walking in on them in their dressing rooms? Remember him wanting to marry his own daughter?

THANK YOU for telling your story about rape exceptions but who the HELL are you to tell a woman, her doctor, her partner, her religious counsel what is best for their situation? That too me is so far into governmental overreach that every regulation loathing Republican should hand their head in shame.
I do not apologize if these questions are hard for you? Would they be easier from another woman or a GOP power broker?
Thank you also for going on the talkies while the country is still nauseated by Katie Britt's exploitation of a sex trafficking survivor trying to shore up your party's fortunes and blame immigrants for all our problems. Pretty funny too that you want to dump the hardwon immigration bill and your party wants to defund federal law enforcement. Might as well hamd the cartels Get Out of Jail Free cards with a nice side request for "more sex trafficking please."

TYT Adding in E Jean Carroll

RantWomanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17611656459134372290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823348575503357740.post-63025812537772740832024-03-09T14:26:00.000-08:002024-03-09T15:33:12.553-08:00VOTED!

<img alt="Pixel 7 "smart" camera says "No recognized objects."" border="0" data-original-height="4080" data-original-width="3072" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicEjX0phhJCqReORSE8ZZBg49wTXAV_3lQKOH3runflzfT2lXAY6ssAvdy3sIQOAeI8SeQUvChTScs6dS5OByIzwUhUc4DKS1pyGTSuhShP6SouYwWZ480pEZui82XCv9sf-qeefHb5ttlwZIU0D99HBj9w7KWr2qtL-L3OZmEbCWHCuibewhhuBMvmZa4/w241-h320/PXL_20240309_213735352.jpg" title="Pixel 7 "smart" camera says "No recognized objects."" width="241" />

Outgoing ballot envelope
on top of incoming one

RantWoman is on a tear to deal with PAPERWORK, taxes and other things. Taxes this year are in the realm of "Good problem to have," except for the part about figuring out whichever online tool RantWoman decides to wade through.

Other PAPERWORK depends on tax information and whatever testing of a new portal RantWoman decides to wade into. Joy. And temptation to procrastinate commenting on any number of topics roiling the infosphere.

But there RantWoman's ballot is on her desk screaming "DEAL WITH IT."

Deal with RAGE about the Supreme court, Section 3 of the 14th amendment, the lesson in post-civil-war reconstruction history that we are all dealing with. RantWoman just thingsk SCOTUS has handled all of this badly and is glad for some persistent teams of voting rights lawyers tackling SOME associated issues.

Deal with it: RantWoman also is particularly inclined toward scorn for the most junior member of SCOTUS, the one crammed onto the court a month before #DonTheCon was resoundingly voted OUT OF OFFICE: dialing back controversy seems EXTREMELY beside the point when one party is happy to place at the top of the ticket a guy who tried last time violently to overturn the will of the people. RantWoman also has RAGE about various other dimensions of campaigns. Sight dependent readers who do not have a screen reader, hover the mouse over the photo for commentary about AI in RantWoman's phone camera.

2. Every dang platform RantWoman regularly interacts with is currently asking RantWoman some version of "help us improve our search" or "Wouldn't you like to try our AI?" NO! RantWoman would like to g-d get done the work she is trying to do. MAYBE LATER.

3. Reminder: RantWoman has enough vision to deal with Blogger backend. RantWoman strives to make posts accessible, usable but cannot vouch for Blogger as a useful platform for people who are totally blind. One quirky note: RantWoman frequently uses photos from her phone. This works fine when creating the post but when RantWoman reopens, the post automatically reopens in HTML mode. In order to resave and see the photo, RantWoman has to click some button to accept whatever Blogger does to satisfy itself about the resulting HTML code. RantWoman would not mind having this fixed but has not taken the time to complain in the appropriate direction about the problem.

RantWomanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17611656459134372290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823348575503357740.post-36102532022279546722024-03-05T22:46:00.000-08:002024-03-05T22:46:20.673-08:00Valid WA State driver's license required, round n+1
One of RantWoman's frequent media streams is job posting, OFTEN in the transportation or public transit sector that, as part of job requirements, say "Valid WA State driver's license required. Translating into RantWoman terms, this means :"must make an ADA reasonable accomodations request just to apply and then must demonstrate that one can satisfy the "essential job requirements."

In the most recent case, RantWoman looked at the job description, determined that the job will probably involve situations that might require more transportation than showing up to an office, and made a snarky post on X / Twitter about the job perhaps having some "eat your own dog food" aspects as far as creativity about multiple transportation options. Now RantWoman gets to decide whether she has the guts to apply, if not for the immediate permanent position perhaps because of the "recruiting for a pool that may involve short-term positions.

RantWoman has in fact held a driver's license. In every state where she has ever had a license, there has been some kind of notation such as "must wear corrective lenses" or "must have a rear-view mirror on the side of the vehicle where she sees badly." Now, though, RantWoman's driver's license record says "medical suspension.: This is what happens when one goes to renew one's driver's license with an undiagnosed medical issue in her better eye and then decides after the automatic one-year suspension that there is no magic wand available that would justify trying to revisit the issue.

Now RantWoman tends to walk into meetings, sow confusion pairing white cane and eyeglasses, and say things like "I don't drive...anymore, but this sounds really confusing." in that case the traffic engineer concurred and RantWoman added the location to her list of places she might discourage infrequent senior drivers from trying to figure out.. RantWoman also learned a while ago from RantMom that a few months before his death, Grandpa Farmer was told by his doctor that because of gout-related shakiness, he could no longer drive. Grandpa Farmer lived in a small town in SW CO with no public transportation. The fact that he could no longer drive up a hill to visit his sister was devastating. In other words, besides lots of youth who grow up with vision impairments, non-driver status happens for many different reasons.

RabtWoman digresses. Back to the original job description and current job application fashion about asking applicants to perform some increment of topical work for free.

RantWoman's first question: why should non-drivers be the only applicants who have explicitly to think about getting around without driving? In fact, RantWoman MIGHT think to dream up an interview scenario for EVERYONE. Imagine a situation that would involve some kind of transportation emergency, lack of a drivable vehicle, need for a wheelchair user to travel, disruption in some major transportation choke point, multiple Sound Transit elevators deciding they just are not interested in people's transportation needs for the day, and perhaps something else to amplify the crisis level such as a major event or large international delegation in town. Open Book test: take two hours. Solve the immediate need to be somewhere or to suggest enough audio / visual wizardry to meet the communications need, develop steps to address the crisis and decide on public statements.

If RantWoman were doing especially well about out of the box thinking RantWoman might add a supplemental question such as "if any of the needed travel segments involve either flying carpets or Mary Poppins umbrellas, please be prepared to discuss technological, regulatory, and budget considerations that could make that idea fly.

Presto, equal opportunity job interview for everyone.

Now, will RantWoman or will she not apply?????
RantWomanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17611656459134372290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823348575503357740.post-8238764715310349672024-02-29T22:03:00.000-08:002024-03-01T00:45:58.159-08:00Happy Leap Day COVID anniversary
#LeapDay #LeapDay2024 #COVID #Pandemic

NO! RantWoman is not exactly nostalgic for pandemic lockdown, but the item popped in RantWoman's Twitter.

Plus RantWoman still means to post about themes from last year about this time, minus the #LeapDay

Use the hash tags or the words COVID and Pandemic to find past RantWoman offerintgs.

From last year:

RantMom's retirement community is, cross fingers, coming out of 10 days of dining room closure because a cluster of RantMom's neighbors who all sat together in the dining room as well as 5 staff all recentlyy tested positive for COVID. This time it wasn't RantMom, but somehow there are anniversary vibes in the air.

(Four) years ago, many of RantWoman's Asian neighbors had already been masking for weeks.

There was the dinner with RantMom and her debate-watching buddy two weeks before..., the last name in the newspaper, the "i'm not surprised" phone conversation with the retirement community medical director while RantWoman was on a bus to buy cat food ahead of pending lockdowns. Here though are some idiosyncratic reflections:

Special shout-out to all the transit and delivery drivers and other essential workers who kept life sort of manageable.

The masks

RantWoman still has in various pockets, an assortment of masks:

--the folded bandana and ponytail holder effort RantWoman tried for awhile.

--The whcked out of new black T-shirt material items that RantWoman's blind nurse friend sent around to the local chapter of the WA council of the blind.

--Several different homemade and commercial cloth masks. A couple of the homemade styles were well-meant but not functional for instance because of ties made of slippery ribbon. Some of the commercial ones have sensible elastic at the ears though some of the elastic has long stretched beyond usefulness

--Several different paper disposable ones. RantWoman is not charmed by the mandate to buy paper masks in the first place. Cloth masks, while imperfect are better than nothing and in many cases more comfortable than paper ones. RantWoman also tends to save paper masks she has acquired, figuring they will be good in an emergency or at least interesting relics.

Mail order shoes

RantWoman is VERY glad both to have found a couple reliable mail order shoe options and to have a couple Nordstrom gift cards she needs to march down and spend for a real custom fit experience.

RantWoman has more to say about the inadequacy of online ad copy, the problem of fitting feet that are slightly different sized, and which footwear elements do or don't easily adjust. But not today.

Stimulus payment clothing

RantWoman feels VERY lucky to have been able to renew her entire wardrobe from the skin out with mail order options.

The Bed from Amazon

Previous bed installation adventures

Weird food notes:

RantWoman mostly did okay about food options or at least does not remember the worst frustrations.

RantWoman still has a whole unopened bag of spicy dried pea packets. RantWoman will either save them for the next disaster or one of these days reconstitute them and see what they can be turned into.

Other food note: a whole lot of Reese's peanut butter cups, curiously accompanied by weight loss, probably from drinking less soda and hopefully not from losing muscle mass.

The college admissions Interview questions:

RantWoman is an alumni interviewer and every year interviews a number of students applying to her alma mater. RantWoman finds the interviews really rewarding and the applicants have been gracious about answering RantWoman's standard question about how did they fare.
