Montana my home

RantWoman gratefully and enthusiastically endorses the great state of Montana and the Montana Office of Tourism for its current advertising campaign all over Metro buses and other Metro locations.

Full disclosure: RantWoman was born in Montana. She graduated from high school in MT. She has spent a lot of time coming and going from MT. She loves MT. RantWoman is perfectly well aware that WA has mountains, volcanoes, sea coasts, and a whole bunch of things RantWoman also has not fully explored, but RantWoman notes that the cost of everything in MT is lower AND there is no sales tax. So unless gas prices head back up, a trip to MT COULD be the perfect recession-era vacation. Meantime RantWoman is just drinking in the Montana bus ads.

(Committed public transit adherents please be aware: to get around without your own car, you WILL have to get creative in MT; luckily the locals are wonderful and with even modest social skills, all kinds of things could be possible.)

Speaking of MT, EEEEEEEK. RantWoman has recently been reminded that another decade has passed since her (gack!) high school graduation. RantWoman will not, not not actually attend the reunion, partly because of schedule conflicts, but today's lunchtime procrastination involved visits to the reunion website and other digressive excursions. RantWoman is actually finding the website sort of fun. RantWoman DID go to a previous decade reunion. There she discovered she could still talk to about the same 12 people she could talk to in high school; this time though, some of the web entries actually give RantWoman the idea she could conceivably be able to converse with some other folks she hardly interacted with previously. Thank you internet!

Here alas we also come to the Productive procrastination, RTFM part of this excursion. RantWoman discovered one classmate's website and clicked to open the link. Then RantWoman's screenreader started emitting not-quite fatal bleeps. Here RantWoman always has to ask herself, is the problem the website or is the problem RantWoman? RantWoman has a policy lately of not complaining about websites that cause her problems until she has exhausted all the "Is it RantWoman?" angles.

The biggest "Is it RantWoman?" angle is that RantWoman is hardly the world's most sophisticated user of all her screen reader's capabilities. RantWoman gets miles and miles out of a few simple techniques but her skills run really thin in other areas. Today while trying to poke at the problem website, RantWoman actually resorted to, drum roll PLEASE, READING THE HELP FILES. RantWoman read enough to remind herself there is extremely useful information there. Then her brain got full and RantWoman faced the fact that she really needs to build time to interact with help files on a regular training basis into her non-procrastination actual work schedule. Rats! RantWoman would rather just go to MT!
