Hero Bus Driver of the Night

RantWoman spent another Christmas eve riding with one of her all-time favorite Metro drivers ever. This driver has been driving the 48 for years. RantWoman thinks he must like the route or he certainly would have had plenty of opportunities to change. This driver long ago won RantWoman's undying loyalty for ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS calling all the stops! It's SO easy!

Little sister says this driver has also interacted with her and Irrepressible Nephew. RantWoman is pointedly NOT commenting about any interactions and pointedly not leaping to every catty thought that comes to mind on that score.

RantWoman is also humble about riding with this driver on Christmas Eve. A couple years ago, a whole RantFamily entourage including Little Sister, Irrepressible Nephew and a sweet young neighbor friend, RantMom, and RantWoman all collected aboard the 48 on the way to an early evening family service in the U-district. RantWoman has no memory of the trip to church except that Favorite Driver was driving.

Came time to go home, and again the Rant entourage assembled at a bus stop. Up pulled Favorite Driver making the return trip in cold and spitting snow. The Rant entourage clambered aboard, Little sister in the wheelchair berth and the rest of the party further back. Little Sister immediately starting making cellphone greetings all over the place. Young neighbor was a picture of decorum, but Irrepressible Nephew was, cough, not only NOT a picture of decorum but also more than the THREE adults he had in tow were managing well.

At one point Favorite Driver even had to scold Nephew. RantWoman is third in line for the authority hierarchy, and RantWoman herself was just about to make the whole party except maybe RantMom because of her bad knees just get off the bus and wait for the next one. Mercifully everyone made it home without further incident.

Tonight, RantWoman and Nephew rode Favorite Driver's bus to nephew's house. Bad Auntie hung out and played Dino-oply for hours and what do you know: when it was time for RantWoman to go home, along came Favorite Driver again.
