Great North American Backyard Bird Count

Mark your calendars; RantWoman hereby commands anyone with the slightest interest in our environment, anyone who can hold and focus a pair of binoculars to participate:

This February 12-15 marks the 12th annual Great Backyard Bird Count in North America. It is organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and invites anyone who has interest in birds, old and young, to celebrate and collect data in their particular area. They have great lesson plans, print outs and information on their site to assist in this and only ask in return that you input your data on types of birds and vital numbers counted in the location you live in. It is a good way to brush up on bird identification skills.

Please understand, the existence of all but the largest urban fowl, and backyard chickens don't count, is a complete matter of faith for RantWoman. RantWoman's ability to locate and identify birds has varied widely throughout her life. RantWoman's bird experiences depend on compatibility of her glasses, what is or is not happening with her eyeballs, and assorted other external conditions. This variability is exactly why RantWoman is glad to have lots of friends who are into birding. RantWoman no longer even bothers about attempting to adjust the focus on share binoculars. Vicarious birding, hearing all about counts, lifetime lists, and rare species: RantWoman is absolutely delighted that this is all she needs.
