Math Mentoring for Women

RantWoman got to this item by accident and was transfixed.

Bryn Maw Professor wins First Ever Mentorship Award from Association of Women in Mathematics

RantWoman is the sort of nerd who took a lot of math she did not even have to take in college because it was fun even though RantWoman did not really hit a groove gradewise. Okay, RantWoman has met a couple other women with different levels of vision impairment who also took math for the same reason RantWoman did--because you just flat do not have to read as much in math as in a lot of text-heavy classes.

Anyway RantWoman wishes she had had a mentor like this.

RantWoman does note one step of progress on the equality in mathematics front: when RantWoman was an undergrad, the math building at her alma mater did not even have women's restrooms on 9 of the building's 14 floors. RantWoman recently learned that apparently the current approach since there is only one restroom on many of the floors of the tower is to have women's and men's rooms on alternating floors. Such is the nature of progress sometimes.
