A RantWoman's work is never done. RantWoman went off last week on what will pass for vacation. The trip involved two LONG car rides, thankfully with good conversation companions. The trip involved a good solid immersion in Montana, a concept which always warms RantWoman's heart and lightens her soul.
Was the trip a vacation from RantWoman's reflex about collecting vexations and aggravations related to disability matters? Um, in a word, no. In particular:
--RantWoman is not used to thinking of dry erase markers and new carpet as accessibility issues. However, an estimated 20% of the US population suffers from some form of chemical sensitivity severe enough to cause headaches, nausea and numerous other symptoms serious enough to impede these people's use of rooms where either dry erase markers or new carpet are present. RantWoman would point out, if 20% of the population is that severely affected, maybe the problem is the chemicals, not the people!
--RantWoman is called to comment further about restroom amenities, in particular the stalls of restroom doors. RantWoman was observing someone considerably shorter than RantWoman try to get into a stall where the door had fallen closed. RantWoman is tall enough to reach up and pull the door from the top. Other Restroom User is not tall enough to do that and probably not steady enough on her feet to pull the door open from the bottom. There is NOTHING at a respectable handle height that would allow people to pull restroom doors open otherwise. RantWoman will add this problem to her evergrowing list of things in queue to FIX. RantWoman wishes the problem would be higher on someone else's FIX THIS list and that it would get FIXED sooner rather than later.
RantWoman did mange to have a lovely time; too bad her quota of writing is already full for the moment.
