Peach Basil Sorbet

RantWoman has the sort of high excitement lifestyle where Saturday errands feature RantWoman's annual haircut and a mission to get provisions for the Queen of Spades. RantWoman loves Capital Hill because she can do all this and a couple more stops on foot between buses in and out.

RantWoman recommends the beauty industry NOT begin salivating about RantWoman product endorsements. RantWoman's hair care ritual consists of one straight across trim each year, leave it long enough to braid, please. RantWoman uses shampoo and creme rinse weekly and mostly keeps her hair in a French braid. RantWoman adores Great Clips because this time she was in and out in about 20 minutes and this year the staffperson again congratulated RantWoman on hair that is in good condition. See flattery will get you everywhere, except to sales of extra hair care!

Next RantWoman set off to lay in canned cat food but HAD to digress to Molly Moon icecream.

Ordinarily, RantWoman is allergic to "trendy." RantWoman is especially allergic to the sort of "trendy" that causes people to line up around the block. Come to think of it, RantWoman is allergic to standing in lines too, unless she has REALLY good companions.

Luckily for Molly Moon ice cream on Capital hill, RantWoman has friends who do brave lines and even bring enough ice cream to a potluck to tempt everyone with about a thimble full of ice cream. RantWoman was well-charmed at the potluck but until today every time RantWoman has gone by Molly Moon, there has been a line out the door and well around the block. So appealing to RantWoman--NOT!

Tonight, with the weather headed toward bumbershoot weather and Bob Dylan playing mainstage at Bumbershoot, RantWoman expects that ice cream probably was not the first thing on many Capital Hill denizens' minds. RantWoman was astonished while walking by Molly Moon. RantWoman almost missed the place because of no line. RantWoman entered the store and got several steps in before she found the end of the line. RantWoman took stock and decided she could stay.

Ambassador Thwack was on duty but RantWoman still had to ask a second time about flavor options, even after listening to the customers just ahead of her. Yes, please, samples of salted caramel and something toffee. The salted caramel was lovely. The coffee / toffee dab on the testing spoon contained more caffeine that RantWoman should even get near that late in the day.

RantWoman asked a few more questions. "What's that color? What's that one?" RantWoman settled on salted caramel ice cream and peach basil sorbet. A half-scoop of each is plenty which is a good thing because even that is about the outer limits of what RantWoman will even consider paying for a single serving of ice cream.

Flavor note: the basil in the sorbet was very delicate. The peach flavor was clear but on balance RantWoman likes more real peach and less sweetness than is typical. RantWoman may be back anyway.
