RantWoman is making notes after the recent deluges. RantWoman heard flood warnings about nearly every river in western WA. RantWoman thought she was home free because she does not drive and was not planning on travel anywhere near the forecasted flood zones.
RantWoman was WRONG--on two counts.
First, RantWoman naively thinks that a good raincoat should be all she needs at the bus stop. Silly RantWoman for her trouble got drenched a couple different times on Sunday by various vehicles plowing through puddles along the curb. RantWoman got drenched while standing well away from the curb, toward the back of bus shelters open to the curb.
RanWoman notes that bus stops with the closed glass side closest to the street offer the best protection from the car speeding through puddles problem. Unfortunately, this stop configuration sometimes makes it harder for drivers to see passengers who actually mean to get on the bus.
But never mind. The other opportunity unintentionally not only to get drenched but also to go swimming lies...on the SIDEWALK, or at least on many sidewalks near RantWoman. RantWoman went out on an evening excursion and nearly drowned as the overwhelmed storm drain at her back door backed up into a giant puddle.
RantWoman continued further along her way and encountered a swimming pool of nearly Olympic proportions where she thought there should be sidewalk near a neighborhood fast food emporium. RantWoman has NO idea what could be done to ameliorate that drainage problem and will just file the problem on her reroute in the rain list. Sigh.
Also alas on RantWoman's AVOID in heavy rains if AT ALL Possible list: curb cuts. Some of these have drainage; many do not and they are singularly unappealing swimming holes. Quack. Quack.
