Subject: Congestion Reduction Fee
Dear Members of the Metropolitan King County Council.
I live in Councilmember Gossett's district but I am writing all of you
to urge that you unamimously support the $20 / year congestion
reduction fee proposed by County Executive Constantine.
I urge you to use the legislative authority you already have. I urge
you to use it immediately so that public attention can turn toward more
sustainable funding for our transportation network and toward the large
number of other critical needs facing our community.
For the vast majority of car drivers who have a choice between
commuting with $4 / gallon gasoline and riding the bus, a $20 / year
fee to ensure they have a choice to ride the bus should be a BARGAIN.
Metro has already achieved big administrative efficiencies and won
concessions from labor unions. Passengers are also paying dramaticaly
higher fares. Everyone on the roads will benefit from Metro being able
to maintain service, particularly the most productive routes.
Voting unanimously now to support the congestion reduction fee is an
effective, efficient, necessary use of your authority as elected
officials. I urge you to make the responsible choice and approve this
measure now.
Thank you for your attention.
