In these days of budget cuts at every turn, RantWoman has so many topics to stay au courant about that sometimes she takes her news as she gets it, even when unencumbered by actual factchecking.
A hot topic at the RantFamily Fourth of July Festivity was...ta-da...the city of Seattle eliminating funding for the crews that come around and trim vegetation hanging over sidewalks in cases where property owners fail to fulfil their legal obligations to keep the right of way clear. Now, if pedestrians, wheelchair users, blind people, or anyone discomfited by vegetation that hangs over the sidewalk calls the city to complain, the property owner will get ...ta-da...a nice letter reminding them of their obligation. Previously, there were City of Seattle trimming crews somewhere in the sequence of events to follow.
RantWoman is unclear what happens if there are more complaints. Do property owners get more nice letters? What happens if the overhaning vegetation causes injury or presents an accessibility barrier? Do we just get to live forward and find out?
Or....
RantWoman does not particularly want to advocate the formation of bands of vigilante vegetation whackers perpetually armed to the teeth with pruners, but the thought definitely crosses her mind...
