Rhapsody on a Theme of Oatmeal

Hard as it may be to believe, RantWoman tonight is finding OATMEAL much more fascinating than software documentation, even software documentation read aloud by a seriously australian voice. On a British-isles tinged note though, RantWoman for eccentric reasons has A LOT of oatmeal right now. RantWoman really likes oatmeal, and RantWoman definitely needs theme and variations.

RantWoman can seldom leave recipes well enough as written. Tonight RantWoman has no rosemary, but Thyme is doing nicely on the aromatic front. RantWoman added a couple tablespoons of flax seeds to the dough and omitted the salt. Then when the finished product was too bland even for RantWoman's salt minimizing tastes, RantWoman sprinkled everything with salt over the top.

RantWoman saw a different recipe with rye flour which makes her think it would also be fun to try these with caraway seeds. Maybe next time.

For the second variation, RantWoman recently cooked up something similar to this recipe for oatmeal mincemeat bars.

RantWoman thinks the recipe she used called for half the butter and brown sugar used here. RantWoman favors noshes that are not oversweetened. RantWoman saw some other recipes that add grated lemon or orange zest. RantWoman thinks that would be very cool. One recipe also called for a powdered sugar glaze. If RantWoman were doing glaze, she might make one of 1 cup powdered sugar and enough lemon or orange juice to make acceptable glaze, perhaps with more grated zest too.
