Voice of the Year: Some things just should not be done

Some things just should not be done. RantWoman has in mind almost anything she has experienced as far as combining classical music with mobile device audio.

First case in point: Little Sister's cellphone number has Vivaldi's Four Seasons for a ringback tone. RantWoman did not even know that setting ringback tones was an option until the first time the piece scraped out of RantWoman's own cellphone while RantWoman was trying to call Little Sister.

Frequently RantWoman's calls to Little Sister go to voicemail. When RantWoman finally got to ask Little Sister, Little Sister mumbled something about not knowing how to change because she had let Irrepressible Nephew fool around with her phone. Fine. Now, whenever RantWoman can, she calls Little Sister from the land line RantWoman still maintains: the Four Seasons sound a lot better through the land line phoneset than through the cellphone.

Next case in point: the worldwide info maelstrom is full of the Halleluja Chorus from Handel's Messiah, performed in all manners of presentation. Put the phrase "Hit the Hallelujah Button" into the search engine of your choice.

RantWoman adnits, she is so appalled by one office performance based entirely on the tones emitted by people's gadgets that she is not even going to look up the link. Readers who MUST listen can go find it themselves.

RantWoman particularly likes this link for being over the top with car horns and choreographed fountain spurts.

RantWoman confesses, the audio on this one comes out slightly rough on her pitiful laptop speakers. But RantWoman thinks that is just part of the "over the top" aspect of the whole endeavor. There is just something WRONG about trying to squeeze the Mormon Tabernacle Choir through ordinary laptop speakers in the first place.

RantWoman COULD buy better speakers RantWoman is NOT going to rush out and buy better speakers though. The link below has much better audio and video production values.

RantWoman also tartly notes that part of the presentation in this video is some combination of RantWoman's ISP and her hardware. The stops and starts are a recurring problem on multiple sites. One of these days, RantWoman will troubleshoot, but RantWoman is really not interested in the possibility that she is going to hear a recommendation to upgrade to her ISP's next increment of service: RantWoman quaintly thinks the ISP should manage to deliver content to maximize experience for different levels of bandwidth. RantWoman thinks this but realizes that approach might not be the most fun or profitable for her ISP. Sigh.
