One of RantWoman's favorite moments from the wrapup presentations at Startup Weekend: http://seattlegov.startupweekend.org/
brought to us live by Pascal whose last name I am not going to look up from King County Emergency Management: he proposed some kind of easy data collection disaster preparedness SDK / template. At least one other person thought this was pure genius but to me the pure genius was the presentation itself. It combined:
--Death by Powerpoint.
--Disaster simulation and
--live data collection / data delivery.
There was actual Powerpoint. Or at least observers at the table affirmed that there was Powerpoint on the laptop. There was lots of affirmation of Powerpoint going on but RantWoman detects mainly blobs.
The disaster simulation element: the laptop was plugged into the projector and there was every intention of projecting Powerpoint, but the content disappeared into some other dimension between laptop and projector. The presentation still managed to grab everyone's attention.
Most amazingly, the presentation also generated and delivered actual data.
What data got generated?
"Everyone, raise your hands if you have your 72-hour disaster preparedness kit!"
How many hands went up?
"About 15 (out of, oh, 150 people in the room)
Let's hear it for DATA!
