The New Printer Again

Today's Blindness tourism moment:

RantWoman is delighted by peculiar things. Today RantWoman learned all kinds of cool things about the new printer at the Friendly Neighborhood Center for Extreme Computing. RantWoman learned that one can scan, fax, save or load form a USB drive, receive faxes on one's computer as an OCR'd Word document, and a bunch of other cool things.

RantWoman is especially appreciative of two things:

--RantWoman received a nice clear electronic digest of the steps to do several of the actions most people are most likely to want to do and the ones we most expect to promote at the Friendly Neighborhood Center for Extreme computing.

--RantWoman also received a nice giant ugly PDF of the whole manual.
In RantWoman's younger, much less visually challenged days RantWoman was exactly the sort of geek who sometimes soaked up technical manuals if not exactly for total bliss pleasure reading at least on the solid chance she would need esoterica from the manuals from time to time in her many tech support roles. Not anymore! RantWoman's falling asleep to her screen reader threshold is REALLY low and is frequently exceeded before RantWoman manages to extract even key nuggets from things like printer manuals.

RantWoman in fact is EXTREMELY unlikely to read her copy of the printer manul. RantWoman MAY try to look for an index and read through just to get an idea what key concepts are called. RantWoman is not terribly likely even to read the manual sections she identifies as interesting herself. RantWoman is MUCH more likely to intone something she remembers form her mental concept list and suggest things for someone whose eyes she will borrow to look for!

Understand, this teamwork thing is a continual growing edge for RantWoman. More precisely, RantWoman is a graduate of the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy First Kill Your Lab Partner" school of teamwork. Well, maybe not STILL that bad, but....

In the event that RantWoman runs out of other ways to fall asleep though....
