Disabilities Awareness: wheelchair vs semi; so many terrible moments

RantWoman does not know where to start:

First a link to a report about a man in a wheelchair who was badly injured when he was hit by a semi truck while crossing 12th Avenue on Capitol Hill against the light:

http://www.seattlepi.com/local/komo/article/Truck-hits-man-in-wheelchair-motorists-don-t-3902150.php

RantWoman's first OUCH, besides the article itself is that the ad served up with it is about something to do with pain relief for those suffering from spine compression.

RantWoman's next ouch is all the people, particularly taxi drivers who did not stop to help. Even recognizing the ouch seems problematic to RantWoman though. In Seattle LOTS of taxi drivers are from east Africa. RantWoman has not discussed this point with any actual taxi drivers but does have a friend who really likes riding motorcycles. This friend has gone to east Africa to do trauma recovery work. This friend has made several trips. More MOST of them she resisted her strong inclination to ride a motorcycle because of horror stories about lack of attention and medical care in the event of an accident.

Do taxi drivers in Seattle fear being held responsible financially or otherwise if they help report something? Are they intimdated about talking to police lest they be suspected of being terrorists? Is it even helpful for people who did not see the accident to be hanging around getting in the way? Having SOMEONE help and summon the police and medical attention is highly topical but RantWoman recommends caution about prothing TOO vigorously at the mouth until more questions aare  discussed.

RantWoman's THIRD ouch: Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn will hold a Community Forum connected in the email thread which came to RantWoman with this accident.

Mayor McGinn is having a Town Hall Meeting Tuesday Evening at the Bitter Lake Community Center 13035 Linden Avenue North --- starting at 5:30 p.m.

A community forum is probably a good idea. The location is MILES away from the site of the accident. Is this anywhere hear where , say, some of the cab drivers live?  Was this just already on the mayor's schedule anyway? Stay tuned....
