Disabilties Awareness: Volunteers needed for disaster drill


The City of Seattle Animal Shelter, Commission for People with Disabilities, Parks and Recreation and Human Services Departments along with  Public Health - Seattle & King County

Want you to help us get ready for the Big One !!

Volunteers Needed!

We are looking for volunteers to play shelter participants during our October full scale shelter disaster exercise at Yesler Community Center. We would like to get a diverse group of participants and are especially interested in individuals who may face challenges in a shelter situation such as people with limited English proficiency, disabilities, elderly and children. Lunch will be provided. Please review the information below and contact us by Wednesday, October 10 if you are interested.

Time: 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Scenario: This exercise will simulate a shelter opening which impacts the city of Seattle. Participants will play the role of individuals seeking shelter at the community center. The staff assisting the participants will be exercising their sheltering capabilities in preparation for a real disaster event which. Participants will be asked to give feedback on their experience following the exercise.
