Enough already with the subject matter expert blind/low vision disaster preparedness dialogue. RantWoman needs to fish in other ponds, ponds she feels VERY lucky to be able to fish in visually with screen enlargement instead of by screaming through search results with a screen reader. RantWoman's selection here is idiosyncratic, determined by time available, not necessarily time to optimize.
Today's disaster preparedness exercises:
--Check Twitter and Google for #natlprep #accessibility. RantWoman rules, more like RantWoman is IT on Google, as of initial posting. More on Twitter. RantWoman does not linger. Maybe tomorrow.
--Google search: vulnerable populations . Lots of stuf, Maybe tomorrow.
--Test other #hashtags on Twitter.
#disability
#preparedness
#NPM2013
#NPM
--Retweet some old stuff with some of the above #hashtags. Of particular note : Census Bureau estimates that 53% of people with #disability have no disaster plans.
--Wait until tomorrow to tweet to ask what people in #disability, #accessibility communities doing are doing for #NPM2013.
Now. to quote Breme Brown, "Stories are just data with a soul." Work with some actual experience:
Boston Hospitals Preparedness pays off for Marathon bombing.
http://idisaster.wordpress.com/2013/09/03/boston-hospitals-focus-on-preparedness-paid-off-during-marathon-bombing/
--Notable: docs at Boston Maranthon finish lines tweeted pointers several minutes before anyone else alerted hospitals; contrast with frontline service providers for vulnerable populations who probably are too busy providing services to tweet about #NPM2013 activities, if they Tweet at all (#digital inclusion)
--File issue of secondary trauma, waves of needs for psychological support, people whose trauma responses get restimulated months, years later.
--Links to various audio things, worth the time just to listen to Here and Now story about how one doctor who moved from Boston to CO helped inform Boston plas after Aurora shooting.
After Christchurch earthquake, sign language video. RantWoman recognizes it assign language but cannot tell what flavor / dialect.

International Christian ministry, just served up out of search engine working in many countries; RantWoman thinks thisexperience might be useful in terms of figuring out how to get things done with many less infrastructure and fewer amenities than people in the US are used to.
An item from the survivalist community, but RantWoman is amused by the bug out / hunker down terminology instead of evacuation vs shelter in place.
