For Immediate Release
The United Blind of Seattle, one of three King
County chapters of the WA Council of the Blind urges all registered voters in
King County to vote FOR Proposition 1.
Bus
ridership and demand for bus service are increasing throughout the county. Our
county needs to ADD bus services, not to ask riders, workers, families to
absorb the dramatic cuts we will face if this measure fails.
We
are prepared to bear increased bus fare and sales tax as well as car tabs. We
appreciate that in addition to funding critical bus service that will fight
traffic gridlock, a percentage of revenues from this measure will be directed
to road maintenance.
Monday April 21 marks the opening of two additional
accessible voting centers, one at Bellevue City Hall and one in Union Station
in downtown Seattle. The third location already open is Election Headquarters in Renton. All locations are open 10 am - 5 pm on Monday April 21. The Seattle and Bellevue locations are open 10 am - 8 pm on April 22; the Renton location is open 8:30 am - 8 pm on April 22.
We want to remind the public of how important the
ability to vote independently is for blind people and people with other
disabilities. We were disappointed to
learn that a video voter’s guide available through the Seattle Channel omitted
any mention of accessible voting centers. We urge anyone with a disability or
anyone who has lost your mail-in ballot to come vote at any of the Accessible
Voting centers listed here!
