Digital discontinuities du jour
RantWoman still owes Beloved Telecomm Provider some attention about billing matters. Last interaction, besides another substantial but apparently still incomplete extraction of cash was by phone and internet both. RantWoman used a different number than before. Darned if RantWoman remembers where the number came from, but tough. RantWoman sat on hold for awhile listening to alternating messages about 40 mbps speeds and Direct TV, neither of which apply for RantWoman just now. There was no time estimate for talking to a human and if the recordings had gone on about one second more RantWoman would just have hung up.
Instead,a human answered. RantWoman requested a needed security code of some kind to her email, found the internet site, and plugged the security code in to get an account. Now RantWoman CAN look at the lingering billing issues.
RantWoman CAN look at lingering billing issues but first:
Amazing Artist Friend, someone RantWoman has known a very long time has been in town this week at a conference. Amazing Artist Friend is crashing on RantWoman's couch and wanted to check her email at the Friendly Neighborhood Center for Extreme Computing.
Amazing Artist Friend does not exactly live on the bleeding edge of technology. She also has an interesting mental health issue that could, RantWoman supposes, also interfere with interactions about passwords but that did not seem to be the point THIS TIME. Amazing Artist Friend went to sign into hotmail and hotmail detected that she is far from home and put her through extra verification for things she does not even remember from when she created her account years ago.
Amazing Artist friend does not WANT to upgrade to an outlook.com email. Amazing Artist Friend was NOT able to check her email and will cope when she gets home. Sigh.
RantWoman also had to digress to conversations about other mental health issues: a customer who openly disclosed something she does not have to disclose but that the public accommodations of the world might encounter anyway. RantWoman will now quiz the staff of the friendly Neighborhood Center for Extreme Computing about their awareness, just as soon as...
Then there were digressions about multiple strands of suicide prevention and other online resources.
Then RantWoman's mind wandered to her latest road trip out past cellphone range. RantWoman and a number of carloads of others were coming back from near Ellensburg a week ago Sunday. There was an UGLY accident near Preston. RantWoman got details via Twitter / text messaging. RantWoman's chauffeur and a whole string of other cars drove back up a nearby onramp to break the clog. RantWoman and SOME of the other cars rerouted with GPS around the accident. Some cars got diverted with strategic cellphone calls. One or two cars without the needed connections of cellphone nad number exchange either got stuck for HOURS or stayed overnight in North Bend.
And RantWoman caught up on all these details just in the course of an average week at her house of worship!
Praise Be?
