So now, how is this tied in with RantWoman's recent purchases at the Columbia City Farmers' Market? Hint: nothing to do with who grows, picks, sells or buys the produce. This is a blog post about getting home!
RantWoman had been poking away at her computer all day and decided she needed to get out. It was bright and sunny. The RantWoman pocketbook was not overflowing, but RantWoman remembered it's Farmers' Market day, an excellent opportunity at least to see and be seen with yummy things coming into season to boot.
RantWoman has walked between her abode and Columbia City more than once; Wednesday Rantwoman opted to walk to the Light Rail and ride one whole stop and then walk from there to the Farmer's Market. RantWoman had a couple good spins around among all the stands. The produce stands are not the problem of course; it's all the kids and dogts and exuberance that comes with such places thriving.
Dear Parents and Dog Owners, Ambassador Thwack the Badly Behaved White Cane is on duty AS A WARNING. Please interact appropriately.
But back to vegetables. RantWoman found herself swooning about stratospheric prices for fruit but was quite please with her ultimate choices. RantWoman was also enjoying working on her tan but not really charmed about the thought of a walk west straight into blazing sun to get back to the Light Rail. SILLY RANTWOMAN!
RantWoman figured she could just hop the #7 bus back up Rainier and minimize her time staring straight into bright sun so RantWoman took up a spot at the nearest bus stop. RantWoman stood there... and stood there...and stood there. RantWoman stood so long and watched so many buses going South without corresponding numbers of buses going North that she was starting to wonder whether some kind of giant chasm had opened up and started swallowing southbound buses. Okay, Metro's track record is better than that. Sooner or later Metro would figure out buses are disappearing and stop sending buses south.
RantWoman was dazed by the sun and never thought to poke out the Metro number on her granny phone. Finally, one of the other people waiting at the bus stop did call Metro and learned of a demonstration downtown though not of the Cause du jour. True to bus form, as soon as RantWoman abandoned her wait and just decided to walk, up pulled a bus!
The truly great thing about the bus though: RantWoman somehow was not in th loop to hear in advance of the street fair. RantWoman actually does not consider this a calamity for one thing because for the next couple days she got to hear lots of drivers and passengers complaining about all the disruptions caused by Wednesday's protest. RantWoman probably could have been more articulate in support of immigration reform, but RantWoman was truly glad to hear of protests in spite of the hassle.
