Apparently one aspect of globalized culture is expanded perpetration of multiple-choice standardized tests. Here is an article about the great works of 19th century Russian literature getting dropped from recommended high school curriculum for various, um, philistine reasons: they do not lend themselves to easy standardized testing. Who needs them if one's goal is to study chemistry? Pretty much the standard rap about the humanities. RantWoman would so like to see exports take other forms.
