It's like the city bus--with Botox

Ordinarily RantWoman keeps most of the ramblings of her immortal soul and rantings about religion and faith on their own blog, but currently RantWoman's electronic and interpersonal input streams are full of "it's like the city bus" "depends on which city."

RantWoman wonders which city buses Stephen Colbert has ever spent time on.

RantWoman's capacity to output into the global conversation is a good deal more constrained, but RantWoman is noting the following items with her own RantWoman spin.

Steven Prothero appeared on Stephen Colbert hawking his new book, God is not One. Stephen Colbert's efforts to engage about the theme of the book was a good feisty round of religion shopping based on stereotypes and culinary taste.

Bear in mind, RantWoman's experience of consuming this media moment had that up-close-and-really-personal tinge that RantWoman gets from her screen enlarger blowing things up: RantWoman saw the two protagonists' faces in detail she would never see on mere television.

What did RantWoman see? BOTOX? RantWoman saw two guys whose faces barely moved. RantWoman mostly exists on the fringes of the Botox culture, but RantWoman was struck, and not particularly in a positive way.

Maybe RantWoman better stick to things she knows something about: if either Stephen Colbert or Stephen Prothero want to join RantWoman either on the local city bus or visiting RantWoman's faith community, consider this an invitation.

As an aside, RantWoman means also to peek at what the Twitterverse has to say about #quakerbuses and the matter of whether, when and how Quaker Meeting for Worship is or is not like the city bus. RantWoman is fascinated by the comparison and deeply amused at the thought that three minutes on Stephen Colbert is how people get to promo the heartfelt writings of their souls these days.

Even though RantWoman would like to be highly flattered by Stephen Prothero's views, RantWoman really suggests people who are curious not take either Stephen Prothero's or Stephen Colbert's word for it and come visit yourself.

PS RantWoman is a HUGE fan of the city bus AND you can get to RantWoman's faith community on the city bus!
