RantWoman and probably millions of others around the world seem to be headed for disappointment and perhaps disgustedness based on the behavior of President #StableGenius.

One of RantWoman's favorite YouTube channels.

Let's talk about healthcare for all, entitlement, and a dad....

And only one of MANY reasons almost the entire #GOP just deserves LUMPS OF COAL for Christmas, and RantWoman definitely means nasty polluting COAL, not some clean energy alternative

REPUBLICANS in CO VOTE BY MAIL. WA Pay attention.

RantWoman is a GIANT fan of Denver TV journalist Kyle Clark, not only for his careful, thoughtful local news coverage, but also for his relentless courtesy in response to all manner of aspersions cast on him in replies on X / Twitter.

Since the @WAGOP is also making noises in opposition to mail-in voting, maybe learn something from another state.

Republican voters in Colorado overwhelmingly vote by mail!

Full disclosure 1: RantWoman particularly follows CO news for a couple reasons. The RantFamily lived in Gunnison for 10 years in the 1960's and early 1970's. RantMom still has many family in what is now #CO03, Rep. Lauren Boebert's former district. RantWoman started paying attention to the illustrious Ms. Boebert because the congresswoman's behavior and grasp of Constitutional basics so severely contradicted basics RantWoman learned in elementary school.

Full Disclosure 2: Mail-in balloting is CRUCIAL for people with many kinds of disabilities who have difficulting traveling to or functioning in voting sites. And expect more in different veins about secure independent voting for blind people!

As for moving Space Command, that's by far not the only wasteful national security decision President #StableGenius and merry Cabinet entourage are making, but that is for another day.

RantWoman comments:

1. THANK YOU so much for asking people's opinions and for having great forms that work well for RantWoman and her screen reader.

2. The email RantWoman received said Sunday August 3 in the text but the link above takes people to a blurb and to the correct date MONDAY AUGUST 4

3. RantWoman STRONGLY endorses online town halls, not only to save herself travel burden but also because it cuts down on ways for disagreements to exceed all constraints of decorum.

(Looking at you, any Republican who can't find ways to meet with constituents.

Thank you for your attention.

RantWoman.

Vocational Rehabilitation Services are a BIPARTISAN concern

The Washington Council of the Blind (WCB) on behalf of its member, fully supports the following statement from the Washington State Rehabilitation Council for the Blind:

The Washington State Rehabilitation Council for the Blind (SRCB) is an advisory group of volunteers, appointed by the Governor, who provide counsel and guidance to Department of the Services for the Blind (DSB). The committee reviews, evaluates, and recommends plans, policies, and activities to ensure that blind or visually disabled people in our state receive the most effective and efficient rehabilitation services possible.

We are sending you this letter regarding our concerns about the effect of the current Vocational Rehab (VR) funding cuts and how those cuts will affect Washington state residents who are served and supported by the DSB.

While the proposal includes $4.5 billion in mandatory funding for the Vocational Rehabilitation State Grants Program, the proposal also includes a Change in Mandatory Program (CHIMP) to reduce the post-sequester funding to $3.7 billion, aligning it with the FY 2024 enacted level. This would result in a significant cut to vocational rehabilitation grant programs.

Washington state will not have adequate state resources to make up for any lost federal funds. Our analysis of the impacts of this funding reduction is that we will have to place some or all applicants for vocational rehabilitation services on a waitlist to avoid overspending the budget.

In addition, the Department of Education budget proposal provides no funding for the following programs in FY 2026, and indicates that these services can be funded out of the already reduced Vocational Rehabilitation grant:

•             Client Assistance State Grants

•             Supported Employment State Grants

•             Training Program

•             Demonstration and Training Programs

•             Protection and Advocacy of Individual Rights Program

Because of the proposed budget cuts, the DSB will need to  implement a waitlist. This is a devastating decrease in support and services especially since applications to DSB for services have increased by 20% in the past year.

Having to wait for Vocational Rehab services can truly be detrimental to those who are ready for training.  The programs listed above as being affected by funding cuts are truly essential to someone who needs a complete rehabilitation experience.

The bottom line is that these programs need to be fully funded. Blind and low-vision residents of Washington state deserve these services to continue to be independent, fully functioning employed citizens.

Respectfully,

Andy Arvidson SRCB Chair and Washington Council of the Blind President

Above is the gentle version. Please allow RantWoman to weigh in.

1. Need for Rehabilitation services is BIPARTISAN.and the big supposedly wonderful bill passed very narrowly but Congress still has to finalize the FY 2026 budget. So Congressional representatives need to hear from the public NOW. It might or might not make a difference, but speaking up still matters. Speaking up any way one can matters especially for representatives who are avoiding town meetings and creating lots of burdens in order to contact them electronically.

2. Full disclosure: RantWoman definitely benefited from vocational rehabilitation services decades ago when midlife DNA lotto hit. RantWoman can tell from others accounts of their rehabilitation experience, that vocational rehabilitation services make enormouse contributions to blind people's ability to thrive in the US economy and to help others thrive.

Enough said?

Kshama Sawant announces campaign against Rep. Adam Smith

Brandi Kruse headline: Notorious Seattle Socialist announces her bid for Congress

RantWoman has until now avoided significant interaction with the media offerings from local journalist Brandi Kruse. RantWoman has decided to add a bit of Ms. Kruse's perspectives if only to see whether there will be any insights forthcoming about former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant's Congressional campaign against 9th district Congressman Adam Smith.

Full disclosure: RantWoman's apartment was located in CM Sawant's district until redistricting. Kshama's campaign is the only one to RantWoman's knowledge, to send canvassers to the building where RantWoman lives. That is a tricky point because RantWoman has not inquired about the appropriateness of admitting people from political campaigns to her building. As a result of a very brief career as a canvasser a long time ago, RantWoman is predisposed to respect canvassers even when they bring flyers with acres of tine print and no clearly marked phone number and website.

That said, RantWoman can think of a number of issues where a Congressional campaign could be a very important venue for questions about topics that need serious attention. Based on Sawant's track record about strong rhetoric and provocative public actions, RantWoman is not confident that Sawant's candidacy will evoke the kind of discussion RantWoman would like to have.

RantWoman has further things to say, but these comments are sufficient for now.

Big Shout Out to the Jeanette Rankin Foundation GREAT FORCE campaign

Rankin GREAT FORCE Campaign

"It's not a handout. It's an investment" referring to the Jeanette Rankin foundation scholarships for women over 35 getting their first associates or college degree.

Full Disclosure: anything that says Jeanette Rankin is guaranteed to get RantWoman's attention--eve if a mailer from the Jeannette Rankin Foundation had inspiring pictures and narrative but NO WAY to connect electronically.

Thank you Google:

But OH NO!

RantWoman read lots of inspiring text. RantWoman did not watch every cool sounding video. At a certain point, Ranchwomen was more than ready to Click the "Give Now!" button.

One Problem: the Give Now button did not work. RantWoman imagines there is some problem related to her screen reader. Maybe RantWoman will come back and troubleshoot. Maybe RantWoman will reach out by email. In the meantime, RantWoman enthusiastically recommends that anyone not vexed by screen reader issues support the Jeanette Rankin Foundation's unrestricted grants for women in need.!

Demand the FULL podcast: Michelle Obama edition

Michelle Obama: This Is A Scam! People Were Running From Us Because We W...

Former First Lady Michelle Obama probably does not need RantWoman to stand up for her. Thanks, though, to Elon's sandbox and one of RantWoman's X contacts who definitely thinks differently than RantWoman, RantWoman's Sunday has been blessed with a window into the #MAGA infoverse.  Reminder: this is the same infoverse that for years has been proclaiming Michelle a man, based solely on Michelle in one of her podcasts phrasing a question to a Black Man she was interviewing "As a black man, (what do you think...?"

In today's moment, well into the video below, Michelle speaks about how it's expensive to live in the White house and the family is expected to pay for every bite of food and their daughters' plane fares when they travelled with Michelle on her plane, not with their dad on Air Force One. Michelle goes on to talk further about how having young kids in the White House does not happen with every President and how much she had to put her foot down to make space for her family.

Because the venue of RantWoman's initial encounter with this topic was X and the clip only showed the short comment about the cost of being President, the replies and quote tweets (sorry Elon, not sorry about word choice) were all about people frothing at the mouth about how out of touch Michelle is compared to everyone else's realities.

RantWoman wanted to scream and demanded from her X correspondent a link. RantWoman still had to do a bit of search on her own, but OH LOOK. Michelle grew up in a two-room apartment in an aun't house. Her dad had a disability and a career as a civil servant. People who can't handle people, on the strength of their own hard work and striving plus a few book contracts, starting from this kind of modest beginning, paying off law school debts, and now being able to afford several properties just need to get over themselves! Maybe listen to the full arc of Michelle and Barak's lives, choices they made in service to the country and stop participating in mindless smears!

There. End of Rant, for now.

Now please appreciate all that there is to appreciate in this video..

PS. One of RantWoman's favorite quotes, paraphrased: "We are being led by people who have not found their best selves."

Voted!

Vote at a King County voting center or get your ballot turned in by 8 pm today. Mail it in time to have it postmarked today if you go the mail route.

Here are some topical RantWoman comments, slightly adapted from suggestions to a pretty new voter.

RantMom now lives in unincorporated King County and therefore does not get to vote on Seattle levies. RantMom would say ALWAYS vote for the school levy.

Social Housing. This vote has a couple parts.
1.. Should there be some kind of tax to go toward more housing. You can vote no and not worry about the next part. The basic point is to tell the mayor and city council that yes, we want to spend tax money on more housing. There are other ways to fund more housing but those are not working fast enough and the housing costs more.

2.. If there is a tax, should it be option 1A, that taxes people who have really a lot of money.Obviously people who have a lot of money don't want to pay more taxes so they are spending a lot of money telling people that option 1A is a bad idea. (RantWoman gets some of the reasons this might be a bad idea but can live with the possibility.)

Or should it be Option 1B provides less money and draws from the already strapped general fund. Lots of people in Seattle are mad because we already voted on a measure that was supposed to go for housing. But instead the mayor and city council basically said thanks for the money. We are going to vote to spend it on police and not on problems that can't be solved with just policing.

RantWoman is aware of possibly oversimplifying and encourages readers to make up your own minds.

Just Stop it: Adam Kinzinger suggestions about how to COPE

RantWoman, like about everyone she knows, is working out how not only to COPE but also to survive and regroup stronger than ever. It's a bumpy road. Differences are not going away.

Here RantWoman offers some samples from her YouTube. Further, RantWoman is certain her readers need the comments she posts.

Isn't modern electronic hyperinteractivity awesome?

To me going to Canada, aside from probably being impractical for me is letting #MAGA win. ##NotGoingBack #WhenWeFightWeWin

I agree about not feeding #DonTheCon's love for disgusting terrorizing forms of gratification. And YET

Why on earth should Stephen Miller be advocating policies that will cripple major sectors of the economy? US demographics are changing and quite a few people in the US are NOT coping well. We should WANT the kind of country that people want to move to. We should also be supporting efforts to deal with crime so people do not have to come to the US to have a better life. And

#DelusionalDonOld is VERY good at dividing recent immigrants from people who have been here longer. Nevertheless, it's HEARTLESS to blow off the concerns of anyone in a mixed status family or any of the categories Stephen Miller rants about.

I WANT to rely on the Rule of Law, but it's not looking so well right now.

Rep. Kinzinger. How do you feel about #FelonDon promising to pardon the #J6 terrorists? To accept a pardon, people have to admit guilt but I think he could also commute sentences. Even a pretty strong advocate for police accountability has a big problem with letting people off the hook who have no more capacity for democratic engagement than beating up a bunch of police officers.

I also think there are actually some voting irregularities that at LEAST need a good sober look before the election is certified.

VERY Cool (modestly) PAID legislative Fellowship Opportunity. Apply by Nov. 15

  Quaker Voice Legislative Fellowship

The Quaker Voice Legislative Fellowship Program encourages the active engagement of fellowship holders in the state legislative process through mentorship, skill development, and partnering with legislative advocates in their work. Participants do not need to be Quakers.

The program provides a $500 stipend. Applications are due November 15, with decisions by November 20.

Quaker Voice Legislative Fellows are young adults ages 16-35 who live or study in the state of Washington. Each Fellow joins a group working to support action in the state legislature on issues in environment, police and prisons, healthcare, affordable housing, and other justice concerns. Within the scope of the working group, the Fellow develops background materials and tracks legislation, in partnership with an experienced Quaker Voice citizen advocate. Each fellow has an opportunity to see in depth how a lobbyist works by shadowing Paul Benz, our Senior Legislative Advocate, for a day. Travel costs to Olympia for Quaker Lobby Day and the shadow day are covered by the program.

For more information about what to expect of this opportunity and how to apply check out 2024-25 Legislative Fellowship Program — Quaker Voice

RantWoman comments: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A QUAKER to participate. There will be some modest Quaker practice such as moments of silence at the beginning and end of meetings and a bit of jargon, but it is a HUGE opportunity to learn details of the legislative process with very experienced and focused advocates.

Judge Michael Luttig: Only Kamala Harris can be trusted to honor the peaceful transfer of power.

RantWoman has decided not to go to law school.

RantWoman keeps revisiting but not regretting that decision.

That said, two lawyer heroes of the day are Marc E Elias of Democracy Docket and Judge Michael Luttig.

Look here for ways to find more of them.

RantWoman's comment, a TAD off topic of this exact video:

All these legal arguments matter. And #DelusionalDonOld is a danger to himself and others. At this point, even though I hated the "LockHerUp" chants about Hillary, I think it's time to contain this dementia patient under mental health grounds. I know this is a controversial view. I can live with that opinion.

Attention Blind and Low vision voters in WA: DO YOU NEED A RIDE to a voting center to use accessible voting options

With less than a week to go before election day, a couple important notes:

Newsflash: all mail ballots are awesome for many people. They are not awesome for blind / low vision people who want to vote privately and independently. They also are not awesome for military and overseas voters. Many states have provisions for people with disabilities to use secure online voting technologies with whatever accessibility measures they are used to, from the privacy of their own homes and submitted through secure electronic portals.

WA is not one of those states. People who cannot vote privately and independently with mail in votes have to travel to voting centers equipped with accessible voting machines which present information in large print or read ballot choices aloud and allow voters to mark their own choices.

For information about hours and locations for accessible voting services in your county, check out

WA Secretary of State Contact your local elections office

Because of the need for blind people to travel to voting centers in order to vote privately and independently, the WA Council of the Blind has secured a grant from Common Cause to help address transportation costs.

TRANSPORTATION TO A VOTING CENTER

 BREAKING NEWS!!!

Thanks to Common Cause, a non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to pro-democracy reforms, the Washington Council of the Blind has been given a grant to help ALL blind and low-vision voters in Washington state who need to travel to a voting center.

You read that correctly. ALL blind and low-vision voters in Washington state will be eligible to apply for a travel voucher or travel reimbursement if they need to pay for transportation to a voting center.

If you need to take a taxi to a voting center-you can get reimbursed.

If you need to pay a friend gas money to get to a voting center – you can get reimbursed. If the friend who used to drive you around can no longer drive because of vision issues, both of you now qualify for help.

If you need to take a Lyft to a voting center – you can get a Lyft voucher or be reimbursed. Sorry, Uber is not participating in this program.

The Washington Council of the Blind (WCB) is proud to be the recipient of this grant to help voters in the Blind Community this election cycle. This is the first of this kind of program in Washington state. The Government Affairs committee along with the WCB treasurer are tasked to administer and track the distribution of these funds.

There are three options to access this program.

1.     You can email wcb.voting.issues@gmail.com

2.     You can call the Buzzline: 800-255-1147

3.     You can use the contact form on the WCB website.

Email wcb.voting.issues@gmail.com or Call 800-255-1147

We need your name, address, phone number. Please indicate whether you need to be reimbursed or need a Lyft voucher. Please leave a good date/time to be contacted. You will be contacted by a member of the Government Affairs committee. All reimbursements will require a receipt proving your trip.

RantWoman will post detailed information for accessing a form through https://wcbinfo.org at the bottom of this post. RantWoman apologizes for all the steps needed to use the web form but it does work.

WCB is honored to be able to offer this program to all blind and low-vision voters who need to go to a voting center to use an Accessible Voting Unit, to register to vote or to just get help with your ballot.

As part of the guidelines for this grant, we need to find ways to spread the word to the Blind Community. That’s where you come in. Share this info everywhere. Call your friends and let them know about this program. Print off this post to hand out to others.

Please everyone: #EveryVoteMatters
