Would someone REALLY try it?

#NeverForget #9/11 #WSJ

Get ready for the internet to fill with reflections in connection with the 25th anniversary of murderous, tragic, and heroic events of September 11, 2001

Read the story here of how the security director at Morgan Stanley trained the 2000 plus Morgan Stanly employees on 22 floors of the World Trade Center South Tower to evacuate two by two singing, leaving space for first responders who might be going up. This effort paid off: all but 13 employees survived. Security Director Rick Rescola was one of the 13 who did not make it.

Cantor Fitzgerald in the North Tower by contrast lost hundreds of employees.

Read the story.  Drills matter. Situational awareness matters.

Then bear with peculiar RantWoman reflections on the other side.

Flash back to 1993, the first bombing at the World Trade Center. The bombing was a car bomb in a parking garage under one of the towers.

The bombing was sufficient to do serious damage but nowhere near enough to, say collapse a skyscraper.

Enter RantWoman's fairly recent graduate school career. People who knew RantWoman as an undergrad might never have predicted that RantWoman would take courses in International Business and read the Wall Street Journal on the bus on the way to work--on Wall Street, but in Seattle.

Right. The BUS. And a job at an organization that had the word COOPERATIVE in its name. Still it was kind of IT job one could get at the time without a computer science degree if one's humanities degree comes with the skills to analyze report writing requests and collaborate on projects. (Jobs like this are definitely still to be had even though #AI changes everything.)

RantWoman specifically remembers riding the bus to work at some point after the 1993 bombing and reading a long back page of the front section story about how if one wanted to take down the towers flying an airliner full of jet fuel into the towers would be one way to do it.

Did Osama Bin laden read the Wall Street Journal? Did Osama Bin Laden just cook up the idea separately based on his education as a structural engineer?

RantWoman remembers mentally filing the story under "would someone actually try it?: along with reasons not to want to work in the World Trade Center.

RantWoman probably has more to say, but start there.

Labor day for Long Haul truck drivers

RantWoman has truckers in her orbit. Not sit around and regularly drink tea but definitely real people that makes this post mean something for RantWoman

Allegations of fraudulent registrations: BS

More media about rubbish from the mouth of President #StableGenius

Geography Lesson, among other things, for President #StableGenius

#Midterms #hispanidad #Geography

Unabashed encouragement about to #VoteThemAllOut

RantWoman is SO tempted to suggest that if President #StableGenius can't respect US history which is a lot older than his Scottish and German forebears on this side of the Atlantic, he should just GO BACK WHERE HE CAME FROM.

This is not an opinion about whether Scotland or Germany would have him, but perhaps transit could be arranged to the Central African Republic or one of the other places on the State Department's travel highly not recommended list. Maybe he could opt for the Department of Homeland Insecurity self-deportation incentives instead,

White Sands Missile Range: the largest military installation in the world?

The RantWoman department of eccentric tourism opportunities presents the White Sands Missile range. Clearly A LOT has happened there since RantWoman and some other NSF summer science program participants visited decades ago.

The Bond Market!

This video is a very clear explanation of LOTS of problematic behaviors in US economic policy.

RantWoman would dearly love to follow the video to recommendations about which candidates running in November are most likely to be able to protect ordinary US workers from all of this. ALas, that direction is probably not to be had.

But RantWoman finds this video VERY clear and helpful.

Pete Hegseth picks on Canadian youth at SUMMER CAMP

Who says President #StableGenius gets to be the only US public figure antagonizing Canada, HOEPFULLY still one of the US closest allies and trading partners?

Look! Here comes Pete Hegseth, strong competitor if not champion "Worst #SecDef ever dissing girls and young women at summer camp!

So manly. Such strategery! Excellent way to win friends and influence people.

Oh Canada

Field of blue with 50 stars next to the stripes pulled together like a circus big top
Canada has
redesigned the US flag.
Enjoy

Canadian commentator Tod Maffin, many people's personal emotional support Canadian is in all the places. Well, he's in Elon's sandbox only by reference, but on Instagram, YouTube and...

RantWoman is learning A LOT about Canadian history and culture from his posts. RantWoman has lived in border states for over 2/3 of her life and even sometimes watched canadian Olympics coverage in preference to the local brands. Yet RantWomanis only now learning all of this. Let's hear it for overcoming ignorance

RantWoman is impressed by well-earned Canada pride and also by what he calls "relentless decency." He also is posting a HILARIOUS series of travel warnings about visiting different US states. Use yer search engines. RantWoman will post links if more show up in her feed.

Another important theme: how to buy Canadian per Tod Maffin

Tod Maffin helps recruit US health care workers. RantWoman will be sorry to see them go, but considering the RIDICULOUS health care policies being presided over by President #StableGenius, his HHS secretary #BrainWormBob, the DOGE toddlers, and the big bad bonkers budget busting billionaire bailout boondoggle, RantWoman can definitely understand a desire to leave.

Take Tod's advice: Practice Relentless Decency

But one BIG caveat.

Tod has a whole video about people doing Google searches about "move to canada" after the 2024 election. RantWoman may even have flirted with the idea herself.

Tod's plea: TAKE THE TIME to learn about Canada, the words to "O Canada," even the French part.
RantWoman is pretty sure that O Canada is way more singable by mere mortals than the US national anthem. RantWoman though is terrified of sounding like a total dork trying to sing in French. So enough of that?

Seeing how atrociously President #StableGenius is treating "our closest ally," RantWoman has a different plea. DON'T GO. If all desperate USians do is flee northward, Canada is still going to be battered by trade wars, insults, and toddler tantrums. Tough it out in the US. Do SOMETHING to right the US ship. GET OUT THERE AND VOTE. Participate in civic dialogue. Make full and virbrant use of the First Amendment.

RantWoman would even say pray for President #Stablegenius and his legions--if RantWoman could figure out what to pray.

Grocery Shopping tips

For all the reasons that food and energy prices are probably not coming down anytime soon, an interesting set of tips.

Some of these tips are more practical than others depending, for instance on available space in cupboard and refrigerator / freezer.

A TON of tips that assume a LOT of pickling, baking. Also, bulk buys are not practical in small apartments.

J Michael Luttig interviewed on The Court of History about January 3, 2027

 #GOP #elections

What happens on January 3, 2027 after the November 2026 elections.

What can possibly be more pathetic than the #GOP struggle to elect a speaker in 2025? Oh, just imagine. Starting with the role of the House Clerk.

Multiple narratives available about things that can happen before and right after the elections.

Starship 40 has gotten towed to Christmas Island

Has RantWoman mentioned in the last little while, for linguists new to maritime vocabulary, that Sal's YouTube channel is an awesome treasure trove of maritime terms.

More on fetching Starship 40 and how this rocket coming back from space really needs all the skilled mariners to get her home.
