What happens on January 3, 2027 after the November 2026 elections.

What can possibly be more pathetic than the #GOP struggle to elect a speaker in 2025? Oh, just imagine. Starting with the role of the House Clerk.

Multiple narratives available about things that can happen before and right after the elections.

Lawrence O'Donnell on The President's lust for vengeance

Lawrence: Trump-endorsed primary losses show Trump might not pick the next GOP presidential nominee

RantWoman appreciates both Lawrence O'Donnell's wisdom and the narrative he sometimes shares about different phases of his career.

RantWoman enjoys imagining Mr. O'Donnell as a young Senate staffer and thinking about all he has seen and spoken about.

Enjoy the video and catch a RantWoman aside on the other side.

As an aside

RantWoman for eccentric reasons is observing the #SCsen #GOP runoff between Darline Graham (Nordone) and Roger Norman. RantWoman Has Opinions. For now suffice it to say, to RantWoman after watching a whole lot of candidates endorsed by President #StableGenius lose in their primaries, after watching the President sink and sink and sink in the polls, it must be hard to stay someone's friend and still try to chart a course that is good for the country and for one's state.

Even if a Democratic candidate looks good, RantWoman also HATES a sense of being extorted: "Vote for the Democrats or else." RantWoman is still angling for a sense of a Congress willing to work on serious problems, not just get mad and go out of town whenever things get too hard. Plus, RantWoman does not care whether it sounds sexist to say that it would just be cool for once to have strong women candidates from both parties.

OK, RantWoman has a vivid imagination, and does not vote in SC and ...

Data Centers are electoral poison

 #AI #China #DataCenters

RantWoman is heartened by all the local communities rising up and fighting to keep data centers AWAY.

Aside from general peeves about electricity and water demands, noise and pollution, RantWoman has the following serious beefs with AI showing up EVERYWHERE.

--A lot of the time, RantWoman does not, Not, NOT want multiple lines of description pablum. She just wants a direct link to what the organization she is searching for chooses to say THEMSELVES.

--RantWoman already has plenty to read / filter in her email. RantWoman does not, Not, NOT need Gemini adding more verbiage to wade through.

--RantWoman does not, Not, NOT want AI help in composing obituaries about RantMom. RantWoman wants clear pricing based on word counts and the time and space to edit her own dang postings and / or more importantly to experience the thrills of sibling bonding while collaborating with Little Sister.

And one more thing: rare books are ARTIFACTS in their own right and deserve protection from the barbarians at Amazon who cut them apart to feed into their AI models.

RantWoman is NOT nostalgic for the late summer of 1991 when the Soviet union was falling apart, much less for the Soviet history of many measures just like this.

Stephanie Miller: work together democrats, with a Malcolm Nance tongue lashing on the side.

 #NotDSA #AIPAC #DemocraticInfighting

Posts like this are one reason, despite RantWoman's general mindset that RantWoman is NOT giving money to any overtly partisan campaign. RantWoman is seeing LOTS of strands of Democratic party infighting.

People need to keep trying to have dialogue with neighbors, people who disagree with them.

People need to find reasons to get out and vote.

And people need to watch the whole process like hawks to fight all the forms of vote suppression and election disruption coming down the line.

Spectator in Someone Else's Election: the SC GOP Senate primary

#SCpol

Early Voting August 5-7. Primary Vote August 11

Sen. Darline Graham "I'm not a millionaire."

RantWoman votes in WA not SC but does believe in understanding the various flavors of #GOP Kool-aid.

RantWoman is amused by a voice on Twitter / X complaining about everyone outside SC telling SC Voters how to vote. Noted. But we all live in the same country and have to figure out how to work together.

Once in a while a circumstance comes along that sparks RantWoman's curiosity about a political race far from RantWoman's home turf. This election cycle, RantWoman is going to look into the SC #GOP Senatorial primary.

Here to get things started, the SC #GOP Senatorial debate.

RantWoman notes with interest that neither of the Intro commentators have what RantWoman expects to be a southern accent.

Extremely interesting initial polling.

Also based on clips RantWoman saw elsewhere: pay attention to the positions about data centers; starting about minute 58.

Concerns about utility impact but "we have to compete with China."

One against FLOCK cameras, surveillance state

SAVE Act and filibuster about minute 1:02

"Make 'em talk all night"

Abolish filibuster because Dems are going to do it anyway.

Voter Id Voter ID

Immigrants: stealing jobs, sucking up health care capacity get rid of waste fraud abuse

National security threat of 8000 Afghan refugees (RantWoman goes off: theseare interpreters, translators, people who have risked their and their families' lives to assist the US)

Concern about interest on debt

Healthcare: let (make) people shop. Health savings accounts

Foreign policy Minute 1:16

Closing statement: about Medicaid expansion.

Guns. Shootings. Investigations...?

#2A #In-n-Out #TwinFalls #BiteOfSeattle

RantWoman cannot speak for everyone who probably felt understandable panic at the #BiteOfSeattle during the recent mass shooting. RantWoman and a friend were on our way home from a weekend trip when two police vehicles went screaming past us about 6 pm. Very quickly there was a post on Twitter / X "shooting at Seattle Center. Please avoid the area." That was all the info RantWoman needed for the moment.

Now, aside from police chief exit and transition drama, RantWoman is curious about LOTS of details. Investigators so far say the bullets fired by the 15-year-old arrested on the scene are not the bullets that killed the people who died. It is not clear based on information released so far how many bullets were fired from which guns and who fired the guns.

RantWoman is wondering: did some of the gunfire hit people who were just bystanders? Was the possible third shooter an armed civilian or somehow involved in whatever led up to the gunfire. RantWoman has no basis for speculating and will be very interested to see whether anything useful gets uploaded to the Seattle PD information portal.

In the meantime, just down the road, another mass shooting at the new #In-N-Out burger in Twin Falls, complete with an armed, and apparently well-trained civilian in the picture.

Readers absolutely are likely to find some of the perspectives in this video challenging.

RantWoman HAS OPINIONS on the other side.

RantWoman's opinions:

1. As with the Seattle Center shooting, RantWoman wants to know who fired the fatal bullets.

2. RantDad would not be the sort of father who would hand his daughter a handgun and tell her how to handle things. RantWoman really also considers it impractical even to make use of the provision in WA state law that allows legally blind people to get concealed carry permits.

3. RantWoman finders herself wondering whether there would be less gun-related STUPIDITY if EVERYONE were forced, say in high school, to take a gun safety class.

4. RantWoman recently received email from a Jewish friend who lives in a Southern state. Ahead of the coming High Holy Days, this friend's synagogue is offering training training basically about first aid for gunshot wounds. RantWoman so wishes that were not necessary.

5. Ditto for the gun check RantWoman and a young student visiting Seattle for a summer internship encountered when we went to a neighborhood Juneteenth celebration. RantWoman follows enough news to understand why, and yet...
