RantWoman presents first flagrant editorializing about why citizen participation is important and then the official invitation to serve on the Sound Transit Citizen's Accessibility Advisory Committee.
Sound Transit covers King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Its board is comprised partly of local elected officials from many cities in these counties. There are MANY accessibility / ADA issues worth paying attention to both for ongoing transit system operations and for things like siting and design of new stations. And, since the board is comprised of local elected officials, one can take what one learns through service on a committee like this and follow up with other people who might also be able to have influence.
In other words, a great opportunity both to learn and to make a difference.
If you decide to apply, you should probably assume many friends and neighbors would be very interested in reports on issues that come up.
Even if you do not apply, check out soundtransit.org for information about projects in your area, opportunity to sign up from various kinds of alerts, and other updates.

Subject: Recruiting for Sound Transit's Citizens Accessibility Advisory
Committee
Dear colleagues:
Sound Transit is recruiting volunteers to serve on its Citizens
Accessibility Advisory Committee (C.A.A.C).
The committee meets quarterly at Sound Transit headquarters in Seattle's
International District to:
* Prioritize issues and work to enhance transportation services for people with disabilities and older adults
* Identify challenges and solutions to regional mobility
* Review and advise Sound Transit on service, signage, equipment, vehicle and facility design
The C.A.A.C does not set policy but rather offers key input and critical feedback and insight on how to make Sound Transit services and facilities more accessible to all.
If you are a rider of Sound Transit's express buses, light rail or Sounder and you have a passion for improving public transportation so that it isaccessible to all, we'd love to hear from you. Apply to be considered for appointment to the Citizens Accessibility Advisory Committee. Applications
to the C.A.A.C are due by September 30, 2018. Sound Transit seeks a diverse committee and will base acceptance to the committee on equitable geographic representation with a balance of people with disabilities, seniors, and professionals in the field of disability and aging services.
