Bungee cord! REflector Tape!

Oh No! Not the floor grime. Anything but the Floor grime! (Shhh! RantWoman is trying to figure out some possible paths to dealing with the household floor grime. RantWoman is clearly not getting it and some other necessities done on her own so…)

Plus, the other day at Seattle fabrics    on a quest for bungee cord with which to restring white canes,  RantWoman was not quite paying full attention. RantWoman came home with bungee cord just a tad thicker than the old busted bungee cord. RantWoman made a number of efforts and the too-thick bungee cord just was not threading into one of RantWoman’s white canes. So back RantWoman went to Seattle Fabrics. Luckily, it was a sunny day. Luckily RantWoman got off the E line at a closer bus stop and avoided a bunch of construction mess coming from a different direction.

Most importantly, RantWoman got to experience more of what is great about Seattle Fabrics. RantWoman has no idea what all Seattle Fabrics customers make, but the place features a WHOLE bunch of things RantWoman can think of lots of uses for:

                Fleece

The kind of nylon fabric often used for backpacks

                Netting

                Various kinds of fasteners

Bungee cord in several thicknesses and in some cases multiple colors

                Plain, non-elastic cord

                Strap / webbing

                Elastic

                Cloth and plastic reflective tape

All of these items are sold by the yard. There are yardsticks velcroed near many of the racks of product. There are scissors on cords near the displays and the yardsticks. All of this made the physicality of measuring and cutting, something that has energized RantWoman through numerous sewing projects, very alive.
The cane, ALMOST fixed

Today RantWoman was on a mission: fix her white canes. But if RantWoman were to browse even a little bit she might be looking to work with some sewing talent to create some outerwear with interesting design values and lots of reflective / hi-vis elements and definitely a look more chic than Dress Like a Traffic Cone. RantWoman has in mind someone to ask about interest. Stay tuned.

Today though, RantWoman walked in with one of the Ambassadors Thwack curled in her bag. RantWoman explained about the bungee cord and a helpful person helped RantWoman find the cord the same size as what has come out of one of RantWoman’s canes. Helpful clerk pointed out the nearest yardstick and scissors and RantWoman set about cutting enough cord to do a demo.

That is RantWoman brought one of her canes with a busted cord and the coat hanger hook she has been trying for help route the cord through the cane segments. RantWoman cut off a 4-yard segment of cord. RantWoman whipped out the cane and the coat hanger hook. RantWoman proceeded to do the entire threading operation at the counter. RantWoman was a little bit in the way, but people at Seattle Fabrics seem easily used to people needing to fuss about things like this. Everything worked, everything except the final two slipknots. RantWoman is going to have to find better videos!

Bungee Cord plus Reflective tape. oh My!

In the meantime, two more successes: RantWoman was happy just to leave the unusable cord at the store. And RantWoman remembered that she is out of the plastic reflective tape RantWoman uses to craft reflective tags to dangle from purses, bags, and sometimes coats. RantWoman was able to look around and find the reflective tape she was looking for.
