RantWoman in all-around Transit Nerd mode Monday stopped by the UW Bookstore for the open house for early (30% done) design review and initial concepts for upgrading service on Metro Route 44. This is early in the process; work is supposed to finish in 2023
Here is the link for the SDOT page about the project with info about upcoming open houses and other info
SDOT project re Metro Rt 44!
RantWoman probably will get more of this read but posts here in time to encourage others to weigh in on points they have strong opinions or insights about.
RantWoman's fast off-the-cuff comments, moving east to west allong the Rt 44 route starting near the UW Med Center, up 15th and then on NE 45.th St, and out 46th toward Market St.
1. RantWoman decided too many things are up in the air right near the new Brooklyn Avenue Light Rail station and the Ave. RantWoman did not even spend much time getting info about proposed variants. Just not worth it yet.
2. RantWoman collected info about planned improvements to several pedestrian crosswalks. YES! No question.
3. Two-way left turn lane in Wallingford. YES! Less space for cars.
(What? No Bike lanes? RantWoman is not up on greenways in the area but actually hopes they run somewhere besides the bus corridor. See RantWoman is just cautious and unnerved by cyclists in bad traffic zones. RantWoman knows these people are grownups and get to make their own calculations about safety, and...)
4. Bus-only lane, eastbound. What is not to like
!
In other words, RantWoman is generally positive about the design. RantWoman as a transit nerd, though does not even pay attention to parking issues. RantWoman also has not interacted yet with the details of public feedback from a survey in October
But go to it if you ride the 44 at all.
