Quarantined?

RantWoman has been debating about whether to post AT ALL of one aspect of her #CoronaVirusSeattle experience: the retirement community RantMom was blessedly able to move to a little over a year ago had one resident test positive for the Corona Virus and quarantine was imposed on Friday. RantWoman had visited the previous Sunday but has NOT so far self-quarantined but has increased caution. RantWoman has also decided just to blog her decisions and experiences. It's data.

And RantWoman still has a visit scheduled by bus tomorrow night to a different retirement community to visit someone who lives only a short distance from the nearest elevator.

Sunday Supper with RantMom

The retirement community resident at RantMom's community went to the hospital on Wednesday, days after RantWoman's last visit. Since RantMom moved to the retirement community, RantWoman has been EXTREMELY grateful, on weekly Sunday supper with rantMom visits, not to have to watch RantMom struggle to cook with various hand issues. Now RantWoman goes over and hangs with RantMom and has a good chat in her apartment. Then RantWoman and  RantMom have dinner in the dining room most Sundays. Last Sunday was no different.

Sometimes the RantWomen dine alone. Sometimes neighbors join our table. Last Sunday one neighbor joined us. She was not coughing. RantWoman has kind of a constant cough and is well used to coughing into her elbow. RantMom has no cough. The dining room always seems clean and not awash in clouds of people's sneeze droplets. The RantWomen sometimes go look at art or walk the courtyard but this time we just walked to the elevator from RantMom's apartment and then to the dining hall and then the reverse after supper. So, even though RantWoman reads both of sneeze droplets in the air and of people who immediately self-quarantine after visits like this, RantWoman has not done so.

Travels

RantWoman has since gone to:
--The STAR Center, closed to everyone but a select few with the right code and key.

--Grocery Outlet on Union and MLK (Route 8 both ways)

--Walgreens and Magic Dragon at 23rd and Jackson 48?

--the laundry room in her building

--Oak Tree plaza UPS Store and Hay Tai market on Saturday 7+ e Line outbound, E line + 8 inbound

--The U district (walk from bus stop along 42nd, down Roosevelt to faith community, Sunday. LOTS of news of people not traveling because of recent surgery or baby due very soon.

--The Harvard Avenue QFC and the Capital Hill branch library Sunday, 49 plus 8 home. RantWoman would not have gone to the library had it been possible to use the restroom at QFC. There is a gripe about capitalism rant embedded in that fact; the rant can just stay embedded for now.
Note: ALL buses were carrying many fewer passengers than average RantWoman experience.

Information flows in RantWoman's building.

--Saturday morning RantWoman went to the laundry room to run her bed linens through the dryer (bedbug prophylaxis). A neighbor asked RantWoman whether anyone in the building has tested positive. RantWoman said no, not that she knows of, but probably if they had, we would know. RantWoman now wonders: if that is the case just for a positive test. Would we just get some more Wash Your Hands Cover Your Cough posters? Or would the place immediately get quarantined?

--Other encounters:
--two other residents in the laundry room. No one was coughing except if RantWoman coughed into her sleeve. All at least 6 ft from each other

--The Chief Morale Officer at the STAR Center who has been coughing for days and is now wearing a mask

--A Deaf Blind neighbor's Support Services provider who RantWoman knows. Both were glad to see each other. We hugged through our coats and looked away.

--Across the hall neighbor and year-old grandson: too close coming out of the elevator for RantWoman's comfort, but...

The information environment in RantWoman's building:

--No one besides the one woman in the laundry room brought anything up. RantWoman decided just to collect data for a bit and hopes she runs into one of the people who is very glad to repeat the same info and over to many people, which will include some people who simply do not read. IF RantWoman tries the repeat over and over approach RantWoman will just get exhausted and very grumpy and it will be hard because of vision issues to maintain reasonable distance.

--one sign in English in elevator. A King County Public Health sign about preventing flu by covering cough and washing hands. RantWoman feels a pang here: RantWoman knows that Public Health has good materials in many of the languages spoken in the building. RantWoman has capacity to print and post. RantWoman has a little bit been hiding behind the don't want to track potential exposures all over the building fig leaf as one excuse for not getting this done. Maybe RantWoman should email the person who probably put up the Public health Sign and see whether he can print and post some Corona Virus signs.

More notes about RantMom: "MOM, you're under quarantine!"

--RantMom wanted to go to a scheduled special event at her church. Then everything got cancelled at her church. Thanks to tutoring from Little Sister, today RantMom worshipped via live stream from Little Sister's church.   #DigitalInclusion

--RantMom and Little Sister were scheduled to go tomorrow to a medical appointment for Little Sister. Little Sister wisely called the front desk at the retirement community. The medical appointment will get rescheduled.

--RantMom reports data that suggests that other people may be getting tested. The retirement community encourages everyone to contact the front desk immediately if their condition changes suddenly which apparently can happen with this virus. RantWoman means to check on the course of the virus when people get infected.

Uh-oh. So what if it's tactile art.
MORE things to touch.

--RantWoman really wants some data about how long all those cough and sneeze droplets linger in the air and whether the lingering problem is worse in close spaces than out of doors. RantWoman is worried about how to keep RantMom healthy and especially to avoid pneumonia. RantMom needs to walk and move. The retirement community has an enclosed outdoor courtyard where RantMom could walk as easily as in the halls. RantWoman REALLY hopes the facility can see the problem as RantWoman does and let people walk their courtyard. The RantFamily is also likely to arrange a dropoff of some foods that RantMom would like to have on hand to supplement the current food delivery regimen.

Other than that, we are all praying people and there are many things to pray about.
