#Connect2020 TEMPORARY change in #accessibility at stations #Blind
#CaneTravel #WhiteCane
The change described below has been postponed until this past weekend's unfinished construction is completed.
From Donna Smith at SoundTransit, edited slightly:
Please circulate this message as widely as possible this weekend. FYI, this change came about as a result of Connect 2020 and we are working to mitigate any potential safety issues until we can find a more permanent solution. Thank you for helping me get this word out.
Effective March 16th, SoundTransit can no longer guarantee that both sets of ribbed ADA waiting pads will align with an open door of our rail cars. For your safety, use the ribbed ADA waiting pads that are nearest the front of the train.
Temporary barriers will be placed at the ADA waiting pads that should not be used. When you encounter these barriers, you should immediately go to the next set of ribbed ADA waiting pads that will not be blocked.
If you use a white cane, please use it to locate the floor of the rail car before stepping in. If you find open space, move down the platform to locate the nearest door for boarding.
Please forward this message to anyone who could benefit from this information. This is a temporary situation for which we will seek a permanent solution going forward. If you have questions, please send an e-mail to Donna Smith at donna.smith@soundtransit.org or call 206-370-5534.
