What? Readers were not sufficiently awed by yesterday's plumbing adventures?
How about a fresh version today with the kind of excruciating detail meant to help one manage for awhile if one really needs a plumber but professional plumbing might not be happening instantly because #pandemic ...?
The short version:
|
Tub, Red soap box with soap and pot used for handwashing things like support socks and anti-Covid masks |
RantWoman is THRILLED to have gotten her dishes washed.
RantWoman will adopt several practices designed to reduce risk of more kitchen sink clogs but RantWoman is not ready to tell the manager to skip the plumber visit because all is well and draining is occurring without incident.
Draining from the bathtub is definitely not occurring smoothly. This photo is from right after RantWoman's shower, in mid afternoon. RantWoman thinks by morning there may be improvement. RantWoman is also considering the Drano option for the bathtub.
RantWoman WILL use a TubShroom too, as soon as the drainage issues are resolved.
Cue video instructions for the TubShroom
A demo by a woman with long hair
TubShroom with some competitors
Nice concise instructions
The lurid kitchen sink details.
Practices RantWoman will adopt immediately
--God there can be a lot of water just from rinsing things off. Try to minimize.
--No storing dirty dishes in the sink. Either wash them immediately or get them a place on the counter
--Avoid as much as possible getting ANY food matter into the sink This goes double for grease.
--Be sure to use plenty of detergent to break up grease
The drill:
Sink was bare before breakfast. RantWoman could have run a pot of boiling water into the drain before tackling dirty dishes. She did not. Instead, after breakfast RantWoman put away the clean things out of the draining rack filled her dishpan mixing bowl with soapy water and started in with eating dishes and then plastic containers while the water was still hot and sudsy.. Rinsing was under the running faucet and as long as RantWoman did not run the faucet at full force, water did not accumulate in the sink.
Next the pots and pans. RantWoman made lentil brownies day before yesterday and OF COURSE had not washed either the baking pan or the pot used to cook the lentils and mix the batter. The baking pan had A LOT of crumbs which RantWoman swiftly routed to the compost. RantWoman also seems to have oiled the pan nicely or the coconut oil in the recipe also reduced sticking. The baking pan cleaned up easily with minimal water except to rinse. The cooking pot also still had batter that went to the compost. And RantWoman wound up just emptying the dish basin bowl into the cooking pot. This worked just fine with enough water for cooking.. In fact RantWoman needed to add more water to wash the inside sides.
RantWoman cleaned all the food matter from the pot, dumped the dishwater, ran the faucet to get rid of the soap, and then noticed water not draining or not draining very fast. Time for more measurement, in the form of 3 photos taken at 12:37, 12:46, 12:53 with the last one showing nothing in the drain and some food matter and soap suds. At this point, RantWoman rinsed out the sink with the first of several kettles of boiling water which all seemed to go smoothly as long as the water stream was not too much at a time.
Okay, okay, plumber probalby still needed but RantWoman can definitely handle things gingerly and mange in the meantime. Yeah clean dishes.
