RantWoman wants to celebrate the art of having fun even when the online Trivial Pursuit game is almost totally inaccessible. RantWoman got to attend several sessions of this year's Lake Arrowhead Symposium, this year called "Not back to Normal: transportation after the Pandemic. RantWoman makes no pretensions of summarizing any sessions. Instead RantWoman is going to offer tips for finessing social experiences even when accessibility is, um, not so much.
After one of the sessions there was a chance to socialize in different Zoom breakout rooms. RantWoman wandered into the one where there was a Trivial Pursuit Game going on with screen sharing and need to mark one's answers in a separate browser window. There were usually 4 options in color coded segments in the window.
RantWoman could neither navigate with her screen reader in the browser window nor remember which colored block corresponded to which answer. In other words, the flow of the game assumed that players have normal vision and can process fairly quickly. RantWoman quickly gave up even trying. But all was not lost.
The topic was California transportation history and infrastructure. Before the game RantWoman knew almost NOTHING about the topic. After the game, RantWoman's knowledge had increased, at least a little, enough to make the frustrations worthwhile!
Yep, RantWoman has a weird idea of fun.
