What happened to duty to intervene or a police officer is always a police officer whether in uniform or not?
RantWoman is trying to opine cogently about the Seattle Office of Police Accountability report on its investigation of the six Seattle police officers known to have been at events in Washington DC on January 6. RatnWoman is going to do the best she can before commentary degenerates into total snark.
OPA Press Release
Seattle is justifiably still mourning Officer Lexi Harris, who was killed while off duty and assisting at a car crash on I5. RantWoman is trying to square that image of police responsibility with the thought of two Seattle police officers watching as other participants in the January 6 #CapitolRiot scaled the walls of the US Capitol, breached entries, and unleashed a mob into the home of the legislative branch of the US government. Admittedly, RantWoman is not sure what effective bystander intervention might look like in that situation. RantWoman though is pretty sure grinning pictures on Facebook and film provided to the FBI by a rioter charged in the insurrection do not count as bystander intervention.
Based on information in the OPA press release and Seattle Times Reporting, RantWoman, not being a lawyer, is actually wondering why no one has charged the officers with the same crimes other rioters are already pleading guilty to. Is there some other shoe yet to drop? Can these officers be persuaded to resign and surrender their law enforcement licenses for 3 years, something like the 3 years probation some rioters have been sentenced to?
In honor of these Seattle PD officers' contributions to enhancing the image of the Seattle Police Department, RantWoman celebrates the following due, due, due process, process, process flow chart of what might come next
A nice "Back the Blue" graphic of all the steps that might come next |
Before the public steps further into the next phase of action against the officers though, maybe the officers need help thinking of excuses for being where they were and doing what they said they were not doing. Here is RantWoman's top 10 list.
10. Because weather in Washington DC in January compares so favorably with weather in Seattle in January
9. We needed a road trip and nowhere to spend money all year because of the #pandemic
8. We're a little disoriented: we thought someone meant Capitol Hill in Seattle.
7. We were tired of wearing masks and happy to hang in that other Washgingto witha lot of people who weren't.
6. We both just have a thing for orange-complexioned septuagenarians with autocratic tendencies
5. We really did think they were offering tours that day.
4.
3.
2. We couldn't think of a better way to honeymoon.
1. Looking for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq worked so well, we thought we'd try looking for antifa at the Capitol.
