RantWoman goofed. RantWoman wrote her earlier post based on her mental map of downtown bus routes BEFORE the new Light Rail stops opened. Since the light rail has opened, several Metro and Sound Transit bus routes that used to come all the way downtown now terminate at Northgate and neither RantWoman nor Mayor Durkan can rely on all the tricks RantWoman previously suggested. However, RantWoman believes in grabbing opportunity wherever she finds it.
Another chance to promote A wee k without Driving October 26-29
RantWoman is an advisor for a project called One Call One Click and comments regularly about data related to that project.
Most of all it's National Disability Employment Awareness Month, #NDEAM, #NDEAM2021 and plenty of people with disabilities #PWD, employed or not need to come to City Hall. So here, RantWoman dissects in minute detail the directions from Link1 to City Hall had 600 4th Avenue. RantWoman time-travelled her search a few days forward to make sure Link is open but did not adjust the time of day.
Behold Google's suggestions. RantWoman did a copy/paste from Google Maps. Her screen reader still says to get off at Pioneer Square but RantWoman has no idea how the map is going to look when this gets posted.
Use caution - may involve errors or sections not suited for walking
Head north on Jefferson St toward 3rd Ave
Turn right onto Cherry St
Seattle City Hall
600 4th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104
Note the "Use Caution" Advice.
Note the weird directional orientation. No one walks N on Jefferson St. because it's an East-West street.
And what would RantWoman advise?
Mayor Durkan is the mayor. RantWoman realizes she should not shield Mayor Durkan from the realities of Pioneer Square, but RantWoman assumes Mayor Durkan could figure out her own walking directions from Pioneer Square to City Hall. RantWoman though imagines other riders might opt to avoid Pioneer Square. Here RantWoman will, for anyone comfortable walking or rolling a few blocks recommend getting of the train at Westlakd and than travelling on either 4th or 5th Avenue to City Hall and then back to Westlake when it's time to go home.
For riders who want to walk or roll as little as possible, RantWoman recommends getting off on the Third Avenue side of Westlake, crossing Third and Pine to the NW corner of that intersection, and then riding the 3 or 4 around to either of the first stops on Jefferson. The one between third and 4th is not as steep as the one at 5th and Jefferson but involves a sltightly longer path to the 4th Avenue City hall entrances. The stop at 5th and Jefferson RantWoman recommends with caution because both outbound and inbound stops are very steep and will make it difficult for many transit users to do the street crossing needed to get to City Hall.
Fun times.
As a last resort, RantWoman may get around to checking whether there are still any inbound buses one could ride to City Hall on 5th Avenue or what buses might still use the express lanes and associated stops to see whether there are options Google hasn't thought of. But for now celebrate The October Service Change
