Vote Once, Vote Twice. Vote School levies and ....

RantWoman's current rule about tech support for RantMom: it's better for both parties if RantWoman does not attempt this after dark. The days are getting longer so there may be more time for tech support, but there is a VOTING matter that probably can't wait too long.

Recently on one of the RantWomen's nightly phone check-ins, RantMom asked "What is this voting stuff?"

RantWoman, never shy about confusing things unintentionally: Oh there are two things to vote about. Did you get the regular ballot envelope?

The blue one?

Yup. That's it. Those are the school levies. You know what to do with that, right?

But what's this other thing?

It's the King County Conservation District. Info about it came on a big glossy postcard.

I think I threw that card away. What's the King County Conservation District?

Sorry, Mom. That's not an excuse. (Oh thank GOD! RantWoman is not going to have to try to talk RantMom through dealing with the QR code on the mailer.) I saved the link. Here. Read up for yourself.

King Conservation District Info with ballot link

One of the things that specifically interests RantWoman about the King Conservation District is speaking about tending to both urban and rural concerns in King County. RantWoman has more on her mind, but besides exhorting readers to use the link, learn, and VOTE, at the moment RantWoman is most interested in voting accessibility issues. RantWoman is all for trying out online voting. Considering the digital divide, though, RantWoman needs to check whether the glossy postcard at least has a phone number to call

Also, no, the problem with doing visual signature on any device using a screen reader has not been fixed.

RantMOM does not use any screen reading and she can PROBABLY sign her ballot with the stylus she uses with her devices. That might mean RantMom's signature will look reasonably similar to the one on file with King County elections.

RantWoman is not so lucky. The only device RantWoman is willing to screen reading off and then sign on is a PC and the one available is not a touch screen so RantWoman's ballot signature may or may not have anything recognizably in common with the signatures on file at King County elections. Stay tuned.

And please do not get RantWoman started on other forms of electronic signatures. RantWoman spent an hour recently trying to e-sign tax info for two different small gigs. One effort worked; RantWoman has to try again about the other.
