It's time again for a survey the City of Seattle does every 4-5 years about how people do--or don't--use the internet, what barriers they face, and general views of technology.
This year, before the city does the survey, they have contracted with a group called Inclusive Data to reach out and ask people what should be on the survey. RantWoman has offered many opinions but is going to make readers express their own opinions.
RantWoman is posting the link to one part of the pre-survey survey here.
Video questions with several ways to answer
RantWoman wishes this pre-survey had an email or a phone interface so people who are technologically hesitant but have family members who might inflict this on them would not even have to figure out the response options.
True confession: RantWoman is not even going to ask RantMom to do the pre-survey, but is going to suggest that Inclusive Data reach out to some different retirement communities both to include the voices of residents, and to include the voices of staff or volunteers who might have something to say.
RantWoman also wishes the pre-survey had asked something about whether the person filling it out helps a lot of other people. RantWoman definitely hopes the final survey includes both some kind of question about this as well as a self-rating about different things, device features, media streams, shopping or medical apps. RantWoman for instance is aware of lots of things she does not know well and therefore uses less than other things she is quite happy to keep working with.
Also, RantWoman encourages people to complete the survey even if thinking about pronouns does not come naturally.
