Let's Ride Transit in...Omaha NE

Happy #RideTransitMonth! Let's go to...Omaha!

A number of ducks are lining up so that RantWoman is going to join hundreds of other blind people travelling to Omaha NE for the first in-person / hybrid annual convention of the American Council of the Blind. People have not been together in person since 2019. Lots of attendees RantWoman knows are honest about the fact that we may never have another occasion to visit Omaha.

Plus the Omaha transit system https://www.ometro.com/ sounds really cool, even when a very nice Customer Service staffperson called RantWoman at 7 am Seattle time to answer some questions RantWoman sent over the weekend by email.

More on coolness in a moment but first a tip for paratransit riders: Plan ahead. Reach out to Omaha Metro  Customer Service  to make arrangements for paratransit reciprocity with your local paratransit status. Paratransit fare is $2.50

Next, if you are as much of a transit nerd as RantWoman is, consider riding the 16 bus from the airport to the conference hotel. Caution: peak hour service only. RantWoman's first pass Google trip planning suggested that some kind of transfer and more of a walk than even RantWoman wants to attempt with luggage. Conversation with the customer service woman made RantWoman go back and redo the routing. Useful to know the bus stop is very near the hotel if one's travel windows line up with the route operation.

On the first retry RantWoman forgot to set both start and end points, so Google helpfully suggested RantWoman could get to Omaha by train from home in a little over 3 days. Useful info but RantWoman is going to stick to the plane for intercity travel.)

RantWoman will probably be doing her part to keep Uber / Lyft / taxi drivers busy. RantWoman though finds it  much more comfortable to get on and off of buses than to climb in and out of cars.

RantWoman asked about reciprocity for reduced fare card holders. Then RantWoman learned that regular fare is only $1.25. RantWoman means to read further about ticketing, a new phone app for contactless payment as well as other fare payment and trip planning details, but let's go to Omaha..
