Goddest Johnson 2022 Ms Independent Challenge 2022 then let's talk about audio description and ...

1. Watch this video by the awesome and amazing Miss Goddest Johnson. Watch it on Youtube and click Like

2. RantWoman went to see some awesome film shorts the other night at Northwest Film Forum

3. Next comes a sort of awkward point: in both film / video viewing experiences above, RantWoman is going to need to say the words "Audio description." RantWoman realizes that the world is not accessible all the time. RantWoman also realizes that asking for audio description in connection with a lot of work to produce a nice visual experience is, um, challenging. And yet RantWoman persists: RantWoman has enough vision to sort of kind of have an idea of what is going on, except that working hard to focus on content is exhausting and gets in the way of the parts RantWoman really wants to appreciate. So stay tuned while RantWoman attempts to speak the gospel of audio description.

RantWoman is thinking about the point above partly because recently she heard a short speech by a blind woman who works in the publishing industry. Paraphrasing, it seems she dealt with a lot of "why do we need to do that?" Why do we need to produce content in multiple formats? What are we supposed to do to make things like chapter and section heading in print content navigable for screen reader users. Some days questions like this make even the act of showing up heroic.

HOWEVER, RantWoman is thrilled to hear there is a blind woman working in the publishing industry. Why? RantWoman knows lots of people who write books and RantWoman needs a way better elevator speech than she currently has to guide writers in the process of negotiating rights and producing content in multiple formats.

4. Around RantWoman all roads sooner or later lead to transportation and wayfinding and transit. In this case, the event at NW Film Forum was close in time enough to land on RantWoman's #WeekWithoutDriving radar. The NW Film Forum physical space is located an easy pretty flat walk from a few different bus routes including that would be a one-seat ride from RantWoman's abode. However this time a filmmaker RantWoman knows offered RantWoman a ride--in her older Tesla.

Teslas are very nice considering features like a spiffy rear view mirror / camera screen and plenty of legroom. Like any vehicle they also need to be parked. Because RantWoman gets around by bus all the time, she cannot be counted on most of the time to have any insights about parking, beyond "why would anyone drive a car to that neighborhood because parking is terrible?"

RantWoman's chauffeur had an excuse: she was also bringing supplies for a class the next day.  Neither RantWoman nor her filmmaker thought to check about parking issues in advance. Useful to know--and in the future to be able to find out easily: parking in that neighborhood or at least close to the Film Forum requires a smart phone and a credit card instead of say coins for parking meters. The things one learns!
