Electric Cars, near misses, must-answer survey questions!

First RantWoman wants very much to thank the person who composed the following survey about electric cars for reminding RantWoman about many things to keep in mind when talking about electric cars.

4-question survey about experience with electric cars

RantWoman absolutely wants to encourage people to take on topics like electric cars for writing assignments.

RantWoman also ALWAYS has a fit when presented with surveys that have required answers and not a single open-ended question. RantWoman does not mean her fits personally but does mean to say more about the content of this survey.

RantWoman would not have minded a tiny bit more introduction about how electric cars are becoming more and more common and in some cases there is legal pressure to increase the percentage of electric cars on the road as one way to reduce automotive greenhouse gas emissions.

RantWoman's father taught high school English early in his career and carried grammatical fussiness over to RantWoman. RantWoman notes that here but does not want it to get in the way of the topic of the survey.

Question 1: "Have you ever had any close calls where you were hit or almost hit by an electric car?"

RantWoman has unfortunately dealt with many near misses due to different traffic conditions and intersection design issues. At first RantWoman's reaction was "how am I supposed to know whether it was an electric car?" But then RantWoman remembered one in a dense, noisy neighborhood that almost certainly was an electric car. So RantWoman checked Yes.

Question 2: "Do electric cars ever make you feel unsafe?"

Yes. They are cars. Cars frequently make RantWoman feel unsafe for many reasons.

Question 3: "Would you like to have electric car laws to force them to be louder.?"

Yes!

There are probably many steps on the way to good laws. One would be to see what data gets collected and by whom now and then start to see where more data is needed and what stories the data tell. When laws get made, someone is guaranteed to ask "How much will it cost?" Honestly, electric cars are one of many situations where it is cheaper to design in safety features early in design phases than to have to wait around for lots of data.

Question 4: "Are you at least legally blind or under?"

Yes, Also people who are blind or low-vision are not the only people who rely on sound cues when dealing with cars.

This blog is way more than the person doing the survey asked for; RantWoman help lots of readers find it helpful
