RantWoman is just going to post links Youtube has served up with commentary to start with. RantWoman is also trying to focus on points were she has serious questions because there are several threads which may be relevant in terms of #JusticeForJaahnavi. RantWoman generally is not trying to read comments for now.
Please note: RantWoman is posting links and forcing readers to click because of the nature of the content. A couple of the links have no audio, just rolling text on the screen.
Midwest safety: officer runs over college student. Here's what we know so far
RantWoman comments:
--Officer Dave accelerating to74 mph? WTF?
--Lighting and chirping siren: Without a sonic cue, RantWoman would have had trouble differentiating flashing lights on a police car from all the other lights in the area. RantWoman cannot comment on whether someone less visually impaired than herself would have the same difficulty. A short siren chirp would not have helped that unless the chirp were long enough to tell where the siren was coming from and how fast it was approaching. Tirade available in separate post about use of siren chirps. RantWoman is well aware of reasons officers might not want to alert the whole neighborhood in some situations. This was not such a situation.
--Obstructed road view to driver's right at that intersection. Bingo. RantWoman did not photograph the next night when RantWoman went to the area trying to find a vigil, but the information presented here matches RantWoman's memory.
--"Tried to beat the oncoming vehicle" ??? Collision at that speed known not to be survivable, but also insufficient time to respond if flashing light hard to identify and insufficient sonic cue.
--Officer's response after hitting pedestrian: professional
--Requests pending to prosecutor for multiple other sources of footage.

Comments about Officer Auderer
Someone PLEASE assure RantWoman that Officer is talking on his cellphone hands free while driving. As far as RantWoman knows there is no cop exception for the no cell phone while driving law. For now it's a question.

Full disclosure: three people in RantWoman's life have been either killed or seriously injured while crossing streets:
Person 1: 5' tall and almost totally blind: killed at dusk while crossing the street in front of a bus she had just disembarked from. RantWoman cannot remember who mentioned that the intersection was a known problem. Person 1's father was a civil engineer and reluctant to sue for fear of adverse job issues.
Person 2. Normal vision. Seriously injured while crossing a street walking home from her bus commute. Main accident circumstance: bad line of sight for driver coming down a hill Person 2 had INCREDIBLE support and was able to return to work as a pharmacist within 6 months of the accident. Not quite good as new; lingering trauma around the edges of life. Lovely timing for RantWoman to get restimulated by this late summer media coverage.
Person 3: Legally blind. Seriously injured in late afternoon while she and her wife were returning home walking their dog. Incident fatal for the dog. Known problem intersection.
