Reminder to all of the important voting resources here:
Just as RantWoman was sitting down to tuck into leftover curry from a family gathering a couple days ago: Knock Knock.
Blind Neighbor wanted to know whether RantWoman still had the printed voters pamphlet so she and her mother could have their family voting party.
The answer: if so, RantWoman couldn't find it, either on her desk or in the recycling.
So here we collide with a digital inclusion reality, a reality RantWoman really wants to know about any impact on turnout and outcome.
Not that there was anything useful in the voters pamphlet anyway. The usually much thicker booklet had only a few pages of instructions and reassurances. RantWoman is able to complete her own ballot by squinting at it. Because of multiple conversations, RantWoman assembled the online resources mentioned in the post above.
But
Blind neighbor does not have a smartphone. Blind neighbor has a couple different computers which, if her mother's apartment had connectivity could have been taken downstairs for her mother to read candidate statements or listen to the screen reader read.
RantWoman apologized for not being able to find her voter's pamphlet. RantWoman did NOT volunteer to see how many hurdles could be overcome at the last minute to help two people vote. HOPEFULLY there are other neighbors who can help or who have printed copies of, say, the Seattle times endorsements.
RantWoman is alas not that saintly. HOWEVER, RantWoman will make a mental note: subsidized housing complexes should be on the WA Department of Commerce list of anchor institutions, if only to add only more option about how to provide broadband access for all the things one is just going to need to do online!
And for a chaser, from the online only South Seattle Emerald
South Seattle Emerald's Dae Shik Kim exit interview with Kshama Sawant
One of the things RantWoman always appreciated about Councilmember Sawant's campaigns: her canvassers always came to RantWoman's building!
