Winter Weather Update

Winter Storm Health Alert

The National Weather Service warns of high winds in King County starting early in the morning on Tuesday, January 9 and continuing through the day. High winds often bring down power lines. When electricity is out, there are dangers to health from carbon monoxide poisoning and cold.

The forecast also predicts possible snow later in the week. Here's a spreadsheet of short safety messages in many languages that you can use for texts, direct messages, or social media posts: Winter Storm Emergency translated-messages_12.19.22.xlsx

Please share the following information to help people plan ahead for their medical needs if the roads are closed or power is out.

Prevent poisoning from carbon monoxide

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous and odorless gas that cannot be seen or smelled. It can kill a person in minutes. If you don’t have electricity, prevent poisoning from carbon monoxide:

  • ONLY use a generator outdoors and far from open windows and vents
  • NEVER use a generator indoors, in garages or carports
  • NEVER cook inside on a charcoal or gas grill
