Death anniversaries are a drag. Sending prayers to all of Jaahnavi's loved ones.
The one-year anniversary of #JaahnaviKandula death is upon us RantWoman apologizes. She has not gone looking in Office of Professional Accountability records--or anywhere else to check the status of the investigations in connection with the collision with a police vehicle last January that killed #JaahnaviKandula.
But look: Seattle Times article about OPA report about Officer Auderer's EXTREMELY insensitive comments
And here's a "nice" video, thank you X / Twitter for a reminder.
And by "nice" RantWoman means parts come with a trigger warning.
Topics still on RantWoman's mind:
--Officer Dave was driving 74 MPH. Really? What was the hurry?
To be fair, none of the videos that show Officer Dave, the off icer who hit Jaahnavi, indicate anything other than quite appropriate distress.
--The general SPD practice of chirping sirens, not only because the siren in Jaahnavi's case got chirped too late for her to avoid being hit by an officer travelling at 74 mph, but also because RantWoman has observed this a few times in her neighborhood. In particular, say, a vehicle coming from behind, making a left turn in front of RantWoman while RantWoman and white cane were trying to cross Rainier Avenue. Aside from difficulty locating a single chirp, police vehicles that chirp, floorboard it around the corner and then turn off the siren and slow to regular traffic speeds make RantWoman wonder what exactly is going on.
Has RantWoman reported this to the OPA? Why, no. Can anyone guess some reasons why not?
So then we get to Officer Auderer, not just his horrific comments but other circumstances.
--RantWoman is very glad to read that others share RantWoman's concern about a union officer being a impairment recognition officer. At a minimum, does SPD need more drug recognition officers?
--Officer Auderer lives in Olympia, at least an hour away under minimal traffic conditions. If RantWoman were in charge of staffing, RantWoman would definitely prefer to have some kind of on-call practice where impairment recognition officers assigned to be on-call were expected to be less than 15 minutes away at the times they were on call.
Enough said?
RantWoman will be watching her news streams for updates....
