Recently RantWoman had occasion to consider one particular pothole on the information superhighway: the phrase "court supervision."
RantWoman does not exactly want to know the details of how the words "court supervision" came into someone's life with respect to computer usage. Scratch that. RantWoman can think of many different circumstances that might attract that phrase to one's life. RantWoman also is morbidly curious, but RantWoman does not get to know. RantWoman simply has to say No. So far RantWoman has not actually had to say no because someone appears to be complying with the terms of "court supervision. RantWoman is only aware that the need to say No exists.
RantWoman is also aware that in modern life, computer / internet usage can be vital for:
--online training
--job hunting
--searching for housing
--many forms of medical care.
--everyday financial matters
Disclaimer: RantWoman is not an attorney but does encourage attorneys and their clients to consider whether in some cases it might be possible to specify some of the list above as permissible activities.
RantWoman will keep her eyes out for technological or procedural options to support people complying with conditions of court supervision while still being able to do activities where computer use is absolutely necessary.
Fun times.
