This video and connection to Rooted in Rights IMPORTANT for many mothers.
RantWoman gets to leave unspoken many family reasons this video speaks to RantWoman. However there was this stranger who wanted to exclaim, while RantWoman was sedated and on a gurney on the way to an eye surgery, about the length of a young RantWoman’s eye lashes and worse yet to touch.
As for RantMom, among RantMom’s greater qualities:
Teaching, albeit sometimes by shrieking, two half-blind little kids and a third one who
wanted to do everything the big kids did how to cook safely, at least in terms
of managing knives, hot liquids and heated surfaces. Don’t forget soap bubbles,
one of the key attractions of dishwashing.
Cultivating RantWoman’s appreciation of math. Okay, there was that part
in about second grade when there was need to make 1 ½ x the recipe when the
words from RantMom were something like “How is it you don’t know how to
multiply fractions yet?” RantWoman now would say “Uh, Mommmm, we just figured
out the 10’s and 100’s and 1000’s,” but the question did make RantWoman eager
to pay attention when fractions rolled into RantWoman’s educational experience.
RantWoman would also think to herself when something similar plopped off her tongue
“Oh shit, I sound JUST like my mother.”
And today RantWoman honors telecommunications experimentation and the
insight RantMom acquired from someone, not RantWoman: RantMom has new hearing
aids. They have Bluetooth so signal from a smartphone can go straight to the
hearing aids without worrying about how one holds the phone!
Happy Mothers Day MOM
