Pizza, Sidewalks, More
RantWoman’s Sunday journeys included a missed opportunity to hear the
NW Choral Sounds in Burien, two sets of sidewalk issue adventures, actually
three counting one previously unreported, and enough pizza from Zeeks that both
RantWoman and RantMom could have pizza for breakfast. RantWoman has no
information about RantMom’s breakfast choices, but definitely endorses the
pizza for breakfast option for herself.
RantWoman loved the invite to the concert but wound up tending other
less musical threads of her life. RantWoman mentions the concert though because
“hear more music” is definitely on RantWoman’s “would be nice” list. In Seattle’s
overheated real estate market weekend trips on transit to the ‘burbs for
affordable interesting cultural activities are definitely a thing.
Sidewalk issue number 1: RantWoman should maybe have called in
reinforcements from Little Sister sooner about one set of gurgling, not
simmering, gurgling problems in her life. RantWoman is VERY grateful that Sunday,
in contrast to a LONG period of exhausting medical realities, Little Sister is
definitely available and able to help right now.
Help needed a trip for debriefing to the Starbucks in the U district on
NE 42nd street coming from the west. RantWoman walks on NE 42nd
street a lot but almost always walks on the N side of the street. This means
RantWoman had little information about the condition of sidewalks on the S side
of the street, until yesterday. Can you say crappy sidewalk? Can you say not
fun for Little Sister in her wheelchair? But the RantSisters are a plucky lot.
The sidewalks closest to the Ave were not crammed with TOO many people hanging
out at the street fair, and Starbucks got to welcome both sisters!
The Rant Sisters had long and long-needed giggles about many things,
not just the debrief before it was time for Little Sister to head home to
Brother In Law. RantWoman called RantMom about a Sunday visit. RantWoman has
been feeling a pang. RantMom has recently been able to move into a retirement
community in NE Seattle. This has been an AWESOMELY good thing but it has
required new thinking about the flows of faith community and Rant Family life. In
particular, RantWoman and RantMom are experimenting about options for our long
love of Sunday get-togethers.
Keep Trying seems to be the key concept. Recently RantWoman envisioned
a meeting at a coffee shop near a bus stop RantWoman THOUGHT RantMom might arrive
at on Campus Parkway. The bus stop has a direct transfer to a bus that goes
right past RantMom’s retirement community. One reason the retirement community
is a good fit is that the community both has great transit options and other
residents besides RantMom who connect partly over all their transit
experiences. Anyway, RantMom arrived at a different bus stop because a church
friend dropped her off. RantMom arrived WAY early and RantWoman’s schedule was
full. RantWoman did not realize RantMom was not at the intended bus stop and
suggested finding the coffee shop RantWoman had in mind.
MUCH miscommunication. RantMom is, um, not a big user of navigation
apps and neither really is RantWoman. RantMom was mixing up the E-W and the N-S
streets. The commercial places RantMom was describing did not match RantWoman’s
mental map, for one thing because RantWoman seldom wanders off Campus Parkway
very far to the north. A couple phone calls of frustration later, RantWoman
decided she needed just to stand in a sunny corner on Campus Parkway and see if
RantMom could find her. Yes! Then the RantWomen visited the coffee shop
RantWoman had in mind. RantMom found a yogurt parfait, but the RantWomen both
noted a much younger demographic. RantWoman will probably still keep coming,
but even with the convenience to the bus stop, RantWoman may find a different option
when she is with RantMom.
Yesterday the RantWoman had left rendezvous details unclear because of
the concert invitation and other things. After the sister confab, RantMom
definitely still wanted a visit but she also wanted a walk in the sunshine and
maybe different food options than the dining room. The Zeek’s pizza on NE 65th
has been getting great buzz at the retirement community. Both RantSisters are
fans of Zeeks in other places. So off the RantWoman went for some sidewalk and
traffic signal scoping.
There are other dining options, but Zeeks definitely seemed most
appealing. Plus the RantWoman found a table in a part of the restaurant where
they were the only customers. Big thanks to the waiter. Besides telling RantWoman
about the cider options, he suggested just ordering a whole salad and two plates
instead of two half salads. Done, with thanks. Next time the RantWoman will ask
for dressing on the side and consider a box to take home leftovers. Both RantWomen
liked the wild greens with gorgonzola, nuts and raspberry vinaigrette! Both
RantWomen have no qualms about eating pizza off the salad plates: that is what
we do at home!
RantWoman let RantMom pick the pizza and RantMom went for Chicken Club.
The RantWomen were not dissatisfied. For one thing, Zeeks runs toward thicker
crust but in RantWoman’s experience the crust is consistently well-cooked and never
doughy. But next time, RantMom wants to pick her own ingredients. The RantWomen
ordered a medium and there was enough left over to need two boxes to take home.
So next time the RantWomen may consider a small or two mini pizzas.
Dessert? RantWoman was full and just wanted to finish her cider but
realized she should ask about dessert. RantMom asked about ice cream and
definitely recommends Full Tilt, the house brand.
Probably not an every week event, but much happiness, contentment,
gratitude.
