Jottings from the U District Street fair, also happening Sunday May 19
on the Ave in the U District..
RantWoman had a blast strolling through the U District Street Fair. RantWoman
was going to let herself be tempted by various bags on display at different
booths, but the bags all flunked one basic RantWoman must have: RantWoman does
not buy bags where the handle is only sewn into or attached to the top of the
bag. RantWoman needs handles attached a
good ways down along the bag.
This criterion also kept RantWoman from buying two gloriously cheerful
bags she found yesterday at her Fave secondhand clothing store Two Big Blondes.
Oh well.
If you go to the Street Fair.
All the buses that usually serve the Ave are rerouted all day on 15th Ave NE.
Take cash, in denominations you can afford to give to street buskers.
RantDad never did street busking with the bassoon, but as a musician’s kid
RantWoman is pretty adamant about musicians needing support.
Put balloons on toddlers. MOST toddlers like balloons. Parents who know
their toddlers dislike balloons should disregard this advice. Besides being
cheerful, balloons on toddlers are a HUGE help for RantWoman. If RantWoman
notices a balloon bobbing along at waist high, RantWoman takes that as a pretty
good clue that there may be a kid or sometimes a dog nearby. Kids and dogs not trained as service animals
are mostly not aware of what white canes mean, but RantWoman is very glad of
clues so she can avoid tripping.
Definitely plan on having fun.
