YouTube is happy, once one watches on City Council hearing to serve up even MORE. Today's gem: public comment period at the Parks, Public Utilities, and Technology Committee. Comments featured an announcement that the Community Surveillance working group needs at least one more member from an under-represented community.
RantWoman wonders whether either of the two members of underrepresented communities there to complain, apparently, about surveillance technology would be able to hold it together enough to participate.
One councilmember suggested that one of the commenters consider commenting at the Public Safety Committee. Can anyone imagine why, if one is worried about police surveillance technology, going to a "Public Safety" committee hearing might not seem like the safest approach?
More money for mental health services and de-escalation measures, anyone?
The hearing.
Seattle City Council Parks, Public Utilities, and Technology committee 8 14 2024
Public Comment lasts about 15 minutes at the beginning.
For anyone who can keep it together enough to assist the city in complying with the surveillance ordinance, Section 14.80.080 of the Seattle Municipal Code please check the Community Surveillance Advisory Working Group and consider applying.
